  • Estate Agent has asked for a copy of the Survey. Is that normal? It probably is I just dislike sales people.

If you're using it as the basis for negotiating the price, absolutely.

Would you give somebody £2k+ just because they asked?
  • If I was selling I'm likely to know what was wrong as I'd lived there. Unless someone was asking for a large amount or had mentioned something serious I don't think I would.

Anyone can look at a window and see if it has mist in it or if the wall is cracked, the seller said that she had no idea when the windows were put in and that she had no guarantee for them. Anyone can look at a garage roof and see if it's damaged. If i'd asked for money off because of the roof I would expect them to look at the survey - but for minor/obvious stuff??

As I said earlier, I'd assume "obvious stuff" was reflected in your original offer, especially on a property sold at a reduced asking because of work needed.

And as for the window age - I'd suggest the majority of windows in houses are out of warranty. That's certainly not a negotiating point.

By all means ask, but don't be surprised if you don't get. If you don't want to hand the survey over, then you're even less likely to get... If you don't get, what then? Will you walk away from the purchase?
  • AdrianC - you are being argumentative and completely unhelpful. Please stop commenting unless you are going to be helpful.
  • Op you're being very touchy here, the reply you think is unhelpful is the opposite.

What if the seller refuses? It's a realistic outcome given the state of the house.
    Thinking critically since 1996....
  • No, he is being unhelpful I'm aware she may refuse. I asked for quotes on how much windows and a garage roof would cost not people opinions on whether they would give me money off or not. Stick to my original question.

Question. Does OP want the house?

  • Regardless of what is reasonable is irrelevant if the seller won't play ball. If the condition was obvious I would tell you to jog on!

  • It's odd. There's a sign next to my forum handle, saying that as I'm a newbie I should be given a chance. I have been polite throughout the thread, only asking for advice, until one forum member was repeatedly rude to me.

And now, in apparent disregard for that request, multiple experienced members are jumping on me and being extremely rude. I am very glad that none of you are the seller in my situation, and I don't believe I will be coming here for advice again.
