Thoragunnr, every time I change my trousers I sort out all my 1,2,5 & 20p's and into the change pot they go.

I have also started to save any £2 coins as well. These really add up nicely.

As it has been an exspensive month, I doubt anything will be going over to my EF. Had my usual bills PLUS TV licence and I decided to buy some prescription safety glasses (I wear vari-focals and also need photochromic coating on the lens), so that will set me back £250.
On the upside, thanks to cataract surgery 6 years ago, my eyesight remains stable so these should last me many years.

Thanks for the number! I haven't yet got off the ground but am planning to budget something into there this month once the essentials are covered. Have my YNAB goal set up to keep me motivated.
  • Moved my money around in online banking and managed to get myself back up to £101.64. Yay! £900 to go but £100 is the most I've had in savings since my mum put coppers away for me through my childhood which helped pay for my first car at 17!

Patman- I wish my eyesight would stabilise. I need new glasses at least yearly and the more I swim (and the worse my eyes get) I'm seriously considering prescription goggles. Poor eyesight is not conducive to money saving!

    Well done on the savings:beer:

Sorry to hear of your eyesight problems. I so agree that they can be very expensive:eek: I have needed reading glasses for a few years now (being of an age when it would be a miracle if I didn't:o) and I saved money by buying those cheap ones 'off the peg' so to speak. I upped the strength from time to time as necessary and all seemed well. I eventually had an eye test last year and was horrified to find that I needed distance specs too:(. I'd not had much bother seeing things clearly (or so I thought:o) but the optician was quite stern with me and said if I continue to drive without them I'm driving illegally and my insurance would be nullified if I was in an accident:eek:

Needless to say I bought some tout suite but made the mistake of getting varifocals which I just couldn't get on with despite trying every day for as long as their trial lasted. They let dissatisfied buyers exchange them for 2 pairs of regular glasses, one pair reading and one pair distance so that's what I did. Finding it a bind to be forever swapping from one pair to the other all the time but could be worse I suppose.

I really value good eyesight (well, as good as I can get at my age) because I'm an avid reader and some of the print is so darn small sometimes:(

CBC, I am in the position that I need distance and reading glasses, hence verification. The trouble is, my distance prescription is so small that the tolerance in the manufacturing process is greater than the prescription.

So therefore I only wear glasses for reading and while at work.

When I was 42, I was diagnosed with cataracts and opted to risk a prescription lens rather than a non-corrected one. It was the best decision I ever made. I went from needing glasses with a -11 distance correction and -8.25 reading to a -.25 distance and +2.25 reading.

7 years on, and I am enjoying wearing everyday designer sunglasses ( I treated myself to a really expensive pair to wear once I had had my op months before I even got the operation date).

Being able to go out in the rain and still see where I am going took some getting used to though.

No 112 finally reporting. Still have a decent EF of £616.00, but(there's always a but) have a holiday to centre parks in Nov to pay for by next month. So will have to use some of this. Due to me reducing my working hours it is now important to behave myself and get a decent EF in place. So going to be extremely frugal and get my EF back up, even to the £1000 I have had before.x

:rotfl:I admit I have a head start, as my savings are £540. But my aim is to get this emergency fund up to £1000 by Christmas 2017.

So I need £460 pounds more. This will not be easy, but I am giving up alcohol, so this should free up about £15 to £20 a week. (and goodness knows what I used to spend on cashews and crisps)!!

There are about 17 weeks left until Christmas 2017.

I'm doing £460 divided by 17 which is about £28 a week. I'm going to try at least £20, maybe £25, and when I can £30.

Hopefully I will see a balance of £1000 by Christmas day, provided the tv, computer, cooker, washing machine and fridge don't all fail at once!

All the best with your savings everyone.:j
