And lastly, it's a small risk,
I wonder if ANY diy'er has actually fallen ill after , removing an artex ceiling ???
ALL asbestos stories I have ever read , have stated the removal of blue is the dangerous substance, mainly used to lag pipes in large engineering complexes.

Willing to be educated and convinced, but until then will take the risk.
As I did with lead paint, playing with mercury at school and using asbestos boards in the labs.

ps will not be wearing a Hi Viz jacket or roping of the entire area etc etc.

I think a lot of it is because of the compensation culture we have today tbh. It's not classed as a licensed removal by the HSE, so how dangerous can it be really?

I researched it before I asked on here and it's deemed as low risk, but they won't say it's safe because it can take 40 years for symptoms to develop. I suppose since people have only being wanting it removed for the last 15 years or so not enough time has passed to tell!

As in the above 2 posts, it is catergorised as low risk, and can even be construed as a money getter for local authorities, not that they would do that:A:A

But having worked in industry from the 70's when no one had even heard of asbestosis, we used to drill 2"holes in asb ceiling and get all the crap down the neck, no face masks, no one knew better.

Did we get any issues?, well that's an endless question and only time will tell. 1 senior maintenance man that worked with asb insulation did die from asbestosis, the case was settled privately after his death. Nothing was proven but the seeds are always sown
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

But the average Diy'er would only see asbestos a few times in his life, play with artex a couple of times and worry about a sheet of the stuff ...once??

If I was drilling , above my head , day after day , I would demand .......
forget it , I would change my occupation.

My Bungalow was built in the late sixties and every ceiling was artexed, just had everyone skimmed, average cost was £100 per ceiling which was a lot cheaper than re boarding and skimming. Perfect finish even with existing coving.

You forget, I'm talking early 70's no 1 knew the issue, and only in 1983 when I was working on major installation in the 3 floors involve did we get the company to act.

    It went something like this and I seeded this with a shop steward;

"Do **********'s know you are supplying them 3.5million sweet packagings per week under an asbestos ceiling?

It was done within a month. But until you know what can you do?.

But we do know now, and sleeping dogs need to be left to lie with least disturbance as we has mostly all said
