Rechargeable batteries for portable phone.

We have always kept our set of three portables in their respective stands and wouldn't dream of leaving them off, but then again, I am mid 70.!
My parents were rather guilty of using the phone for short periods and replacing the handset on the charger. This undoubtedly shortens the battery life. It is recommended that you leave them off the charger until they need to be charged (there is a handy warning signal when this is required). Otherwise the 'phones are not truly portable.
Anyway, I went to the Supermarket and bought some Duracell rechargeables for half price. They work just fine.0 -

Half of what price?
What is it with you and your parents? Why do you want them to feel guilty?
Sheesh, it's £3 for four rechargeable batteries. It's not going to break the bank.
Stop hassling your parents over £3. :money:

It's not the cost, it was the fact that they became worryingly non-contactable.NiftyDigits wrote: »Let them have their fun
Regardless, I'm content.0 -

Mine are 12 years old and had 1 change of batteries and ours get put on the charger otherwise where do you find them , unless you go to the base station and page them , which of course doesn't work if the handset batteries are flat4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Oh ok then. But I'll keep an eye on the Marriage, Relationships & Families board, just in case.0 -
So if they have a power cut .... have they a real phone ? I would be less than content , old style phones work if the house is powerless ...get a life and make sure they are contactable before you make glib statements.,Moneyineptitude wrote: »snipped...

I second the point made above about getting a basic corded phone for use in the event of a power failure.
These can be purchased for under a tenner and even though power cuts are fairly rare, it could save a lot of grief if it's needed.0 -
Yes, but they don't answer it (he replied glibly:p)debitcardmayhem wrote: »So if they have a power cut .... have they a real phone ?0 -

Not when the batteries had failed they didn't.debitcardmayhem wrote: »So they don't answer the dect phone either then
The corded phone just sits in the corner of their living room, it's never answered when it rings because my parents have conditioned themselves to answering the portable phones even though the nearest one is situated in the hall.
My mother suffers from Alzheimer's.
Let's leave it there, eh? I've already got the batteries0
