Rechargeable batteries for portable phone.

I have a set of three BT "Freestyle" portable landline 'phones which are a few years old now. Unfortunately, the re-chargeable batteries have become unreliable over time and I'm wondering whether it's worth changing them and, if so, if anyone has any recommendations of what brand to choose?
They've been good 'phones, but I bought them for my elderly parents who don't appreciate the need for the batteries not to be constantly on charge. They invariably replace the handset on the charger even after very short calls have been made.
Any advice?

The brand is not important. Just search using a Part No. or the spec written on the battery.0

My main concern is whether changing the batteries is worth it in the first place or whether I would be better purchasing new 'phones.NiftyDigits wrote: »The brand is not important. Just search using a Part No. or the spec written on the battery.
I also want some recommendations (as per money-saving) that might cost less but still be good value.0 -
No need at all to replace the phones when replacing the batteries should remedy the situation.
We have two phones one on charge all the time and the other done as needed.
If they start to play up (maybe once every few years) we just change the batteries, making sure to match the spec of the current ones.0 -
Can you open the battery compartment on the handsets?
They are either a couple (or 3) batteries in heat-shrink plastic with a cable and connector at the end. Or they can be standard sized AA(A) batteries.
if they are the ones in heat-shrink then google the part number for appropriate replacements and you'll be fine.
If they are standard AA(A) size then pick up the largest capacity rechargeable AA(A) batteries you can get your hands on.
My old Handsets used AA rechargeable. The ones that came with the phone were useless! could only last 12h off of charge with no usage! Replaced them with 2400mAh ones and they regularly lasted nearly a week before needing to be recharged!Laters

yes , but as stated earlier , it will take longer to fully charge them , when you get them leave the phone in the cradle to fully charge them at first0

LIDL have 4 x AAA, 950 mAh batteries for £2.99.
From the 6th of October
Theoretically, you should get 50% more talk time/on standby.0 -
Where has anyone said this earlier in the thread?enfield_freddy wrote: »yes , but as stated earlier , it will take longer to fully charge them0 -

Oi! Leave Freddie alone!
....and stop stressing your poor parents out! Let them charge their phones as much as they see convenient. I always pop mine back on the charger. 0 -
We have always kept our set of three portables in their respective stands and wouldn't dream of leaving them off, but then again, I am mid 70.!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
