an ultimatum/stand off/unsatisfactory outcome?
I have the chance to pitch for what some colleagues would say was a sideways up place but it is a great way to get a foot in the door ( a longer way of moving upwards but even so beneficial to me and to them) which I feel I would be good at so have done the bullet points/ put thought and time into what is best to say, how to approach, all the prep work seems to be clear and well researched, the problem is when I get in there, I know what to say and know my capabilities but I also know I have to convince them of my suitability and if they say no and all their reasons why I feel I will be left mumbling, nervously agreeing, go away frustrated and letting myself down.
If it goes like that I could corner myself by issuing an ultimatum, I need to keep to the facts and not deviate, I know I am capable, I just forget.
Any ideas?

When you say "pitch", do you mean interview? Or more informal?
Is it possible you could write a business case for you to get the job? Sometimes it's easier to put a considered argument down on paper.
Do you know they would say no? Do you know why they would say no? Write down every objection they might have and then come up with a counter to it.0 -

Ok - so you need to convince them the value of you filling that role is more than the cost it would incur.
What would you bring to the position?
Analyse your skills and experience against the demands of the role. Think particularly about the demands which are most important to the business.
How would your old job be covered?
Give some comfort that a gap would not be created elsewhere, and if it is, there is a way for it to be covered with minimal disruption.
What difference would you make?
Think about the impact you could have that would add to productivity,profitability, improved ways of working etc
What would you be prepared to do to make it a success?
Volunteer for training, home study, self development, etc0 -

As SS said, practice! Come up with all the questions they might fire back and prepare response, then rehearse them. Remember that it is all about facts and examples. Remain calm and confident so that you don't find yourself in a defensive mode. Believe in yourself so they believe in you.
Not sure why you refer to an ultimatum because I can't see how this is applicable in your situation.0 -
Depending on your organisation, you might find it useful to have a concise written summary to offer them so they can refer to it later and not forget one of your killer points.But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.
