Called up to cancel sky now in new contract

Hi my parents have tv, phone and broadband with sky and were out of contract, so I called up and explained they wanted to leave and asked to cancel their services and get a MAC from them.

So ended up that I was told don't need a Mac and that after a long sales pitch about the TV services the cancelation was put through and all that was needed was for my father the account holder to be put on the line, at this point I had to leave so put my father on to them and lo and behold a couple of days later we get an email thanking for signing up to a new 12 month contract with the phone and still no word that the TV side has been canceled.

So have been trying to get through via the phone and live chat but still waiting on hold, so anything I can do, do they record all calls ?

Thanks

If your father, as the account holder, has agreed a new minimum term there is nothing you personally can do.
As for the TV cancellation, if you father didn't agree to it then it won't have been actioned.

Any particular reason why you are attempting to represent your parents?

Thanks for that they are both over 80 and when I called I was asked why I was calling and explained this

Well, unless they are incapacitated by Alzheimer's or other debilitating mental condition, you cannot make any decisions with regard the Sky account on their behalf.

Parent can give son/daughter the right to talk to them on their behalf and it will be noted on the account. I do this with my Parents as both are in their 80s and hard of hearing. Other than that they have full mental capabilities but prefer to leave it to me.

As to the original problem I would suggest putting in an official complaint.

Yes, but clearly such permission was not given before the OP made those arrangements which father subsequently rescinded. Without such permission, the OP has no ability to make decisions about the account.

Frankly, I'm tired of telling people to communicate ONLY in writing. And now you know why I always give this advice.

if calls are recorded does not matter about writing, its a myth
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

I agree, but in this instance the OP didn't actually get permission to act on his parent's behalf and any discussion about cancelling was seemingly superseded by the OP's father.

However, I suppose it's possible that Sky have gone against the father's wishes and failed to cancel on his instruction too. If that is the case, then I agree the call should be listened to.

You need some Phyllosan or maybe red meat if you are getting so tired posting this short piece of "advice".

I take care of my parents utilities for them and find it easier just to pretend to be my dad when I phone them. That way I have full control and things like this can't happen.
