Hi I was wondering if anyone has been contacted by this company regarding 'unclaimed Assets'. They say I have liquid assets unclaimed and want 1/3 of the total for the work they have done. I have tried all the banks I use, old premium bonds and also tried to trace forgotten shares but all to no avail. Can this unclaimed asset be PPI and its just another company trying it on ?

Can this unclaimed asset be PPI
No. With PPI there is no pot of money waiting. No-one is owed money with PPI. That isnt how it works.
There are companies out there that find lost assets, inheritances etc and go to the beneficiary and give them the info in exchange for a cut. So, what they say they do is a known business method. As long as you pay no money up front, you should be ok.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Thanks for that it was what it thought, but still leaves me trying to find this lost asset. This company do not want any money up front they just take a cut from the final amount.0

If you've looked through your old documentation, premium bonds and shares (as well as asking your bank), I expect you have no such "liquid assets".
You can employ them if you want.0 -
Treethorpe operate as heir hunters amongst other things. If an individual dies intestate the money goes to the crown after a period of time if there are no traceable relatives. Before this happens, lists are published and the 'heir hunters' then try and track down distant relatives so they can inherit instead of the crown and for which they want a fee. Has anyone else in your family been contacted?0

Thanks Bob, no on in the family has been contacted, the company gave me a specific amount, just under 3 grand but want around 1000 for the work. I have asked for the details under data protection but they say it comes outside the act.
They say all they can tell me is that it's a Liquid Asset.0 -

As I said earlier, this company isn't about to lose potential commission by assisting you in any way to find this by yourself. However, if they've mentioned a specific amount, then the good news is that there is definitely money to be had.0 -
I've been approached by a similar firm who have an unclaimed £2000 inheritance but want a third of it. I have contacted the Treasury Solicitor who run the Bona Vacantia website and they tell me this company has now been appointed 'administrators' of the estate- but I do not have to deal with the heir hunter and can approach the administrators direct for my inheritance. The problem is that the administrator is the heir hunter and so don't want to be helpful. I'm not sure whether I have a legal right to demand to be dealt with by the 'administrator' and not pay any commission. Any ideas?0

Hi Sconny
Did you ever find what your liquid asset represented? I don't want to pry into the details but I have had a similar letter from them and am wondering where to start searching myself for what it might be as their commission is such a large chunk. Any clue as to the kind of thing might be helpful. All I know is that it is NOT an inheritance from a will. Old savings account? Old investment/ insurance premium? It's a mystery!
If you used them to find it for you, were you pleased with their service and the outcome?
Thanks.0 -
Ok so a further update, Treethorpe have offered as reduced commission 25% instead of 33%.
There are two amounts a Capital Value and a Past Recoverable Amount.
I have a suspicion the PRA might be share dividends ( as the value has risen)and the CV might be Shares (as the value has fallen slightly) The lady at Treethorpe did inform me that the CV can Fluctuate...!
My family have informed me that way back in the late 80's we all invested in a company called Britoil who were bought out by BP ( I have shares with them) so I am trying to find out what happened to them shares !
Any thoughts please ?

Hi, I am in exactly the same position, even down to the reduction in commission (offer made yesterday 23rd June!). Did you take them up on the offer. I am reluctant to, as I think its excessive and have a few other concerns about their business practices, especially now it seems that the reduction is an automatic reaction and the opening offer is just to soften you up. I'm sure the monies they say are out there are accessible without their help, saving in my case nearly £7K. What are your thought?
