Bristol Resident's Parking Permit

I've got no parking on the street I live in BS1, the A38, so even if I wanted a parking permit I wouldn't be able to park outside my flat. I'm glad of my bike when these schemes are dreamed up.0

Speak to your local councillor0

When you rented the flat, was parking mentioned in the blurb? If it was, then ask to end the tenancy.
Could you rent a parking space somewhere.?
I'm almost certain that it'll say something along the lines of parking permits being issues by the council but in no way the responsibility of the landlord.
Our council issues parking permits online, much easier!0 -
We needed to move out of our old flat as it was full of damp/mould which was affecting our health and we were spending a fortune on running a dehumidifier
When we went to view the new flat we noticed the parking meters and the letting agent advised us that it wasn't a problem, we could just buy a parking permit from the council (in hindsight, we should have enquired further into this, but the road looked like it had plenty of parking spaces and we're desperate to move). We met the landlord when we moved in and he also mentioned getting a parking permit as he saw we had our car.
For the past 2 weeks we have been either paying the parking meter or using my works car park to store the car (temporary solution until my permit came) but now we'll have nowhere to park! The nearest car park for us is @Bristol (if you know it) and it's £210/month for a season ticket!!!!! There is absolutely no way we can afford that. My car is worth less money!
I tweeted the Mayor and he DM'd me to ask me to write to the council (which I was gunna do anyway), but that still doesn't solve the issue of where I'm gunna park my car now. The most annoying part is there's ALWAYS a space on my road. It's half empty most days and I've never had an issue parking outside my flat!!!!! I came home from work on Fri at 6pm ish and got parked straight away! :mad:0 -

In which case the EA has lied to you. I would go and give them merry hell and tell them that they either pay the £210/month for parking, or they release you from your rental contract.
You requested a property with parking, they have signed you up to one without!
Put some pressure on them and see what happens!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Sounds like there are no more permits available because the council want to fleece more money via the parking meters, not because there are no spaces.0

I think the EA will will laugh us us out us out of their offices!
There was no formal contract/agreement signed to confirm a parking space. I just enquired when I viewed the flat and they told me about the permits. Only verbal, nothing on paper, so they can just deny saying anything! (which I'm sure they will)
I'll definately give them a call tomorrow to find out if they can do anything about it though.
I came back from my parent's house tonight at 18:45 and parked right outside my flat (free on Sundays) without any problem. The spaces on our road are half empty. I've taken pictures of the road as proof and will do the same for this week to get some evidence.
I just can't believe that as a 'Resident' I'm not entitled to a 'Residents' parking permit! I have no idea how they allocate the spaces, maybe it's on a first come first serve basis, which is unfair on people renting and moving in at different times of the year! Maybe I'd be more understanding if there were cars fighting for spaces, but the road is half empty all the time!
Will be writing to the council/local councillor/mayor about this. My OH and I really love our flat and had planned to stay here until we could afford to buy. Now we may have to move out! :mad:0 -
OP, you did briefly mention it, but you should seriously consider getting rid of your car.
You have said you live in the centre of Bristol, so could you perhaps consider using buses more?
Of course I have no idea about your other circumstances, but if you are trying to save to buy a property, maybe you could do without the car.0 -
I have arguments for both sides.
I'm stuck with the horrendous bus service in Bristol because I work centrally and can't park within two miles of work. I can't cycle because it's far too hilly and Whiteladies Road is a death trap!
On the other side of the coin, the street I live in a rat run to avoid speed bumps, a car park at school run time and a free for all at the doctors surgery. Having a driveway and dropped kerb mean nothing

I was thinking of selling my car, but at the moment it's very useful (supermarket shops, travelling home, camping etc) and cheap to run. I also have a potential job opportunity the other side of town and I would need my car, so for now now I want to keep it
I've parked at work today (hopefully don't get in trouble!) and plan to leave my car there for as long as I can. Going to email the EA now to see what they can do. Anyone got any tips for writing to to the council? Thanks0
