Bristol Resident's Parking Permit

Hi all,
Anyone else had trouble trying to get one?
I moved from a flat with an allocated parking space to a flat with on street parking outside. However, you either have to pay the parking meter (max stay 2 hrs) or apply for a "Residents Parking Permit" so you can park freely without a ticket. I knew I would have to get one so I filled out an application form before I moved (had to wait until the last min as they needed to see a copy of my tenancy agreement as proof of address and I didn't have one until just before I moved in).
2 weeks later (they state on their application it may take up to 14 days) and no permit has arrived, no contact, nothing. I didn't even get confirmation that my email application was received. All my contact with them had been via email so I've tried to get back in touch several times but have got no response.
I've tried phoning them on numerous occasions but they never answer, you don't even get put on hold, The phone just rings and rings! I called on Weds lunchtime and got a voice mail message "we are having staff training, please call again between 1-6pm". I call, only to find out nobody is there as they close at 5pm! I've tried calling several times today (no answer) and I even tweeted the council (no answer). As of tomorrow I'll have nowhere to park as I've been using my works car park as a favour while a colleague was on holiday (we don't all have a space).
No idea what I'm going to do now!

With my local council you can go to their offices and get a temporary permit valid for one month, but you have to pay for it, where as the first full permit is free but it takes four week at least to get it. So chicken and egg unless you have some temporary visitor permits you can use in the mean time or somewhere else to park temporarily.0

I would happily pay for a temporary permit until my official one arrived, but you can't seem to do that (if you could I wouldn't know, as it not on their website and they don't answer calls/emails!)
I'm going to have to beg security to let me keep my car in the car park at work. The only other alternative is to drive my car to London and park at my parent house until I get my permit! :eek:0 -
tweet the red trousered idiot who came up with this hare brained scheme!

You live in Bristol and the nearest non controlled parking is London.
Hmm.0 -
Haha! I should tweet him...but I don't really have an issue with it
It makes sense to stop commuters parking outside people's homes! It's only £50 a year, so I can put up with it, but I need to get my permit first!
As I live in the city centre I come under the 'central zone' so there isn't really anywhere to park that's not in the scheme/a pay and display car park
Going back over their emails I did notice something else that's pretty carppy - due to high demand in the city centre not all permit applications can be approved! So I might not be given parking anyway!
This was not mentioned to me by the letting agent/landlord/council (when I first managed to get them on the phone). What a load of s**t!!!0 -
Absolutely furious!!!!!!!
Got home tonight to find a letter from the council stating they cannot issue me with a parking permit as they have already allocated all the available permits on my street!!!!
I now have nowhere to park my car and may have to get rid of it! DUCKING RIDICULOUS!!!! :mad:0 -
To be fair, if there's no room left there's not much they can do - it's always worth doing your homework on a potential new house to prepare for issues like this.0

Whereabouts do you live?0

Think Bristol's bad? Try Bath! There's hardly any parking anywhere for tourists let alone residents :-$0

When you rented the flat, was parking mentioned in the blurb? If it was, then ask to end the tenancy.
Could you rent a parking space somewhere.?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
