    Perhaps a Floppy Disc?

    Have you installed Chipset Drivers?

There is no floppy disk drive on the computer.

I downloaded and ran Unknown Device Identifier and strangely it did not show any unknown devices.

This is on an old computer that I installed Windows 10 on.

    An Acer M1610

I am not all that impressed with Windows 10, perhaps because I have got Windows 8.1 and tweeked it to remove all the Metro stuff.

You should always begin with Brand name and model number.

Since it's a Technical Preview, you shouldn't expect everything to work. It's for Advanced users. :)
Considering it is an old machine, it may have items fitted, such as a Dialup modem, considered obsolete.

    It's not that old.

It originally had Vista on it.

HWVendorDetection does not give any useful information, thinks the OS is still Windows 8

I'm an advanced user, 68 years advanced.
I did a computer course at college 13 years ago, got an HNC in computing.
    I just forget things.

Anyway, when I get my SSD drive for my main computer it will be Windows 8.1 32 bit I will be clean installing on it, I don't see any advantage to me by installing Windows 8.1 64 bit or even Windows 10.

In fact I think I will just re-install windows 8.1 back onto my old computer.

That way I might find out what the unknown device is.

Just install Windows 7 to it.

I paid £14.99 for Windows 8 so I am using it.
