continuous building contents insurance confusion after renting

Hi, Just a simple question I think and I'll try and explain this correctly!
I moved house last year and rented just for 3 months, I had a gap of 4 days for contents insurance and a gap of 3 months for building insurance as I didn't need this as I was renting a place until my house was built and finished.
I've had no claims for building/contents for over 10 years and I've always had building/contents insurance throughout the lifetime of owning my other house.
When your filling in these home buildings/contents insurance forms in and they start asking questions about no claims/continuously held insurance for a number of years etc, I'm not sure what to put in really?
Do I just put in 1 year now for both as I've been in my new house for one year?
Thank you.

Sounds about right.
Probably won't make too much difference as long as you haven't had previous claims.0 -
Hi, Sorry do you think I should just continue to put in 5 years or more for both or just stick with 5 years for contents and 1 for building? cheers.0

Sorry again, forgot to say I wonder if the CIE or something may come into effect or is that just for car insurance?
(Continuous Isurance enforcement)0 -
CIE is for motor insurance0

In your op you say you haven't had continuous cover on either category.
So if you are asked about continuous cover your truthful answer is one year0 -
I see, What do you think I should do then?0

It really does depend on the specific wording of the question you're being asked - which will likely be different for each insurance company. Some frame the question in the context over having made any claims for x period of time. Other ask a separate question re. NCD and this will usually reference 'continuous insurance' - in which case, strictly speaking - you haven't held continuous policies. You could always ring the customer services department for your likely insurer of choice and seek their guidance.0

Many insurers will allow you to keep the ncd if the gap has been less than 12 months ( some will allow 24 months). providing there have been no incidents that could have given rise to a claim and you have had the insurance before.
Get your quotes and ring the insurers directly to make sure but I'm sure you will be fine.0
