I know someone who has just settled a case [a week before court date] with a car hireco for £200+ ...representing their original £30 admin fee, court costs [£50] and £140 of his 'costs'.
Don't pi55 about with them, send a letter before action and get on MCOL and issue the papers.0 -

Why would he do that when his bank will simply give him the money back and take it out of the hire company's account?Je suis Charlie.0 -

Yeah that sounds easier ...until you try dealing with a !!!!!! bank system/employee.
Often you have to 'prove' to your bank that you were lied to or scammed or whatever....and even then they seem hit and miss wrt decisions... so there's every chance you'll end up complaining to the bank and then going to the BO. Several years later you might get your money back off the bank0 -
All you do is ask for the bank supervisor/manager if the front desk clerk is being awkward/unhelpful/unknowlegeable.0

With credit cards you are right, it can be difficult, because the bank could finish up out of pocket.
With DD's, not so: the DD guarantee scheme is usually followed without question, because the refund to the punter automatically yanks the money back out of the originator's account, and there's nothing the originator can do to prevent it. So, there's no risk to the bank and no reason for them to quibble.Je suis Charlie.0 -
