Current passport delays?

  • As said in an earlier reply, I sent mine special delivery for peace of mind as my old passport didn't run out until next March, so it is something you have to decide yourself. I was going to send it with a first class stamp but I do a job where passports, driving licenses etc have to be sent for ID purposes and never seen again.

I also stated that unless you have changed radically then NO you don't have to have the photographs signed, mine weren't, as directed by the Postmaster in our main post office, who only does passports and money exchange, and I got my new passport back with no problems. So, again it is totally up to you.

This, by the way, was only a couple of weeks ago.

    Hi

I had to get a passport renewal. It said in help booklet that you didnt need your new passport photos signing if you were still recognisable from current passport photo. I don't think I've changed that much in 10 years but I got mine signed anyway just to be safe and also got them to fill out their part on application.

I took my application to post office check and send at 4pm last Friday (26th Sept). I had a text on Monday to say they had received my application Got another text Wednesday, think it said something like being printed?? Got a card through door today from DX delivery. I'm assuming it's my passport, I need to arrange for them to redeliver it. So very very quick and pretty impressed. I live in North Wales by the way :)

Yes - You need new photo's
No - Cant use the 10yr old ones
    Yes - Need signatures

If it's a renewal of an adult passport (not a replacement of a lost or damaged passport) and your appearance has not changed much between the old photos and the new ones, such that it's recognisably the same person in both photos, you don't need to have the photos and application form countersigned.

I'll need to renew my passport before the end of the year, do I need new photos or will the old ones left over from 10 years ago do?

Photos have to be taken within the last month.
There is no longer a backlog so the passport applications are being processed as normal.

And do I need to get anyone to sign them?

Not if you can be recognised from your previous passport

I was told it depends how much you have changed whether or not you need it countersigned.

It doesn't get processed any quicker by using check & send.
Post Office counter staff don't have any special training.
If you can read the instructions properly you're as qualified as any Post Office counter staff to check your own form.

Check & Send is one of the most pointless ways to waste money that there is.

I simply don't agree. The counter clerk even verified my photo for me after I filled in another form after the previous one he said would have been rejected because my witness had an outdated passport.

... and if the application is rejected by the passport office, the post office refund their fee.

First class service IMO and I'd use it again for sure.
