How much money do I actually save by switching all the stand by applcances off at ni

The cable connect type monitors are not accurate at low outputs. For measuring standby usage a plug in monitor is much better. If you really want to know. I'd say get an energy monitor like OWL electricity monitor.
Part of the problem with standby consumption is global which is the reason for the new standby rules. It is wasteful leaving items on standby but it depends on what the consumption is and how often they are used. I leave my new tv on standby as the consumption is less that 0.5 watts and its used for a few hours daily but switch the plug off on an older bedroom tv which has high standby consumption and is rarely used.
For rarely used items making the plug socket accessible increases the likelyhood of them being switched off.0 -
Thanks fro all the great responses.
Very interesting. i think most of my equipment is quite new so probably ok.
Yes, "I Have Spoken" probably save more by walking instead of driving a few times, but then it chucked it down this morning
