Is this a meth lab or something?
As I say, I pay absolutely no attention to power usage and always leave everything on standby. It's just me in a 2-bed, but everything except heating/water is electric, including shared lights and intercom and my total bill is around 50p/day.0 -
Maybe the older TV might have used tons of energy on standby but my LCD's do not with just having the red light on. Seems it is another myth
This story came from the old CRT TV's which could come on instantly when brought out of standby. They managed this by powering the tube heater all the time and keeping various other parts powered up all the time. If your old TV takes some time to warm up after coming out of standby it will use much less energy in standby than the scare stories suggest.0 -
I did make it sound a bit like 'Saving Grace'...we're not growing or making anything dodgy...promise!0

I didn't know a kettle and toaster had a standby mode.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

I have no idea if I am a high user or what since I use a old crt, pc with led monitor, have a fridge and chest freezer running all the time and leave my microwave always on(more as I worry that turning it on or off constantly will damage it long term and/or cause shorts in the electricity)
For my old CRT tv I don't know about its standby usage, it takes a few seconds to come on and for first 10 minutes pictures takes a while to settle.0 -
A fireman I know said he had been to a lot of fires started by TV's left on standby.
A lot now don't have a proper on/off switch, like one in my bedroom, so I turn it off at plug.
Don't like going out leaving things on standby or charging.0 -
If you really want to know. I'd say get an energy monitor like OWL electricity monitor. Easy to set up and a great gadget.
The worst offender in my home was BT vision.
After switching off TV PS3 BT speakers - saved me close to 150W.
I'm still playing around to get my usage to minimal. Lowest I have seen is 274W.
PS: I have 2 aquariums with 3 pumps running 24x7, my master and slave BT home hub's, infinity, phones, home server“Don't raise your voice, improve your argument." - Desmond Tutu

I got mine down to zero (when fridge/freezer not kicking in obviously).
Is nice to know you have nothing unexpected draining somewhere

You could spend every day worrying about phone chargers etc left on, but it's never going to save more than the cost of a few gallons of petrol. So just walk instead of driving now and then and you're ahead, without all the hassle0
