Non heating electric cooker =(

  • Our Creda oven stopped working Sunday in the middle of cooking dinner. We assumed it was down to the element and there were plenty online either genuine or compatible - the latter for £11 + postage. In the end I phoned up a local electrical shop who had a compatible in stock and picked it up Monday (£20). We fitted it in 10-15 minutes and all is working again. It must be possible for you to do this successfully.
My wife was secretly hoping for a new model as our double oven is now 11 years old.

No guarantee from me, these are listed as suitable, and have the right image in the photo.....

    Or you could try

Note the different length of earth connector. From your own head-on photo, I can't be sure which. I have a feeling you've actually been ordering the wrong part, as I can't get one to come up with the alternate type heads you had delivered; they are all coming up with the right crimp connectors.

That's the same as the one I ordered and it doesn't fit. We tried it. Uri Gellar wouldn't get it to connect.

And we wouldn't be getting a refund from the company if it did fit.

They said there are lots of variants on our model HOTPOINT HW170EW and when we gave them our serial number to check, couldn't find one to replace the broken one with two flat connectors. They all have these H goalpost shape connectors that do NOT fit.

    :(

DIY is not for everyone, a certain amount of gorm is required.

Best to leave jobs like this to someone who can!

you push the oven connectors onto one of the 'goalposts' on each side, you do not need to have a connector to fit all 4 'goalposts'. The middle earth connection is the same for both elements.

It is obvious from your own pictures that the connectors would fit onto the new element that you bought, as they are the same size but you have sent it back because you could not fit them and you will have to put that down to experience now.

The crimp connections can be gently opened up a bit more if needed. Unless they're significantly bigger, it should have been able to work.

Buy a cheap multimeter and check it. I've replaced both the elements in my oven in the last couple of years, it's a lot cheaper than a new cooker.

Your fault symptoms are not very consistent, why did it drop the breakers the first time you put it on, but not afterwards?

When the elsement first fails there is a surge of of current for a very short time causing the circuit breaker to trip. Now the element is blown there no longer any current flow and the circuit breaker will be happy once reset its just like the am circuit breaker gets tried by a light blub blowing.

I had the same problem, you have to use pliers to push the connections on, they are really tight. This is how I know they fit.
