TV Licence - BBC channels not recieved

Options
Hi, apologies if this has come up before, but due to poor reception if my TV does not receive any BBC channels, nor are any listed in the channel guide, would I still need a TV licence?

I should add that I can receive other freeview channels, such as ITV, CH4 etc.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The licence permits you to watch live transmissions from any broadcast channel. There will likely be a crowd on here later telling you about iPlayer, 4OD etc.

If you watch live TV as it is broadcast then you need a licence.

Whether its cable or sky channels or one obscure channel thats not on the tv guides. If its a broadcast then you need one.

Have you gone down the new aerial route ??

Re the licence i am currently watching live TV via the internet >> its live so i require a licence .
BBC is funded from the licence but it is not a BBC licence .
  • Thanks for the replies!
  • Fix the aerial.

I find it difficult to believe that the BBC is not receivable while other channels are unless your aerial is completely mis-aligned.
  • Is often the case missing BBC channels is a symptom of too strong a signal first try a 9-12dB in line attenuator, no guarantee but well worth a try for <£1

Then you can pay the TVL with a spring in your step and a warm feeling inside.

Forum Moderator - please lock this thread now, before it takes the usual route of TV licence threads.

P.S. My faith in the UK education system is partially restored by this thread - everyone who used the L word spelt it correctly (rather than using the American spelling)!2hh3o7c.jpg
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
