Help...can t activate iMessage on iPhone.

Hi there can anyone help me with this problem please. I bought an iPhone 4s off a relative and I'm trying to set up iMessage but I can't activate it. Keeps saying there s a problem. At the moment I can t download the latest iOS on it because it's still supposedly still downloading apps etc from icloud. I also have an iPad air.i ve had this phone well over a week now and it s still not downloaded all my apps . Is this normal ? Any help appreciated, thank you.

Is this stuck on waiting to activate? First thing to check is that in Settings>Phone your number is displayed correctly, if it is check that it matches the number at the top of your contact list press phone then contacts scroll right to the top to confirm.

With regards to your apps it all depends on your internet speed and how much data is being transferred, it also transfers all your photos from icloud and this can take some time, i think it is only done when you are on wifi also

HI thanks for replying. I can't see my phone number in settings anywhere. Where exactly would I see it please.

Hi thanks . Yes the numbers both match. What do I need to do next please. I've gone onto messages and switched iMessage on and it says waiting for activation but now says an error occurred during activation try again.

Ok, next thing to check is that your time and date are set to automatic and not manual this can also affect activation

This is in Setting, General, then date and time

The 24 hour time is on. Set automatically isn t on and time zone is Los Angeles for some reason lol
