Not technically true.
If you spent your money on a hitman to have me killed then I would have one or two concerns about that0 -
Maybe 'hand to mouth' is a bit strong.
What I'm saying is that if you've only got £383 in the world then it's not a good idea to spend £174 of it on a hotel, because then you've only got £209 in the world, which doesn't really go very far in an emergency, and if something bad happens that ties up £204 of it.. well, you get the point.
If I was that low on cash it'd be panic stations, not splashing out on fancy hotels.
It is more or less hand to mouth IF the OP didn't have a fallback like a credit or chargecard/savings.
If losing only £200 means you'll practically starve then you really should be planning your finances more prudently.
I always ensure I have at least £500 in readily available liquid funds (cash in a shoebox basically) just in case my bank decides to go into meltdown.
It's better to have something set aside than cross your fingers and put your trust in companies who can and will let you down.0 -
Why would you pay £174 for an Ibis?!philnicandevan wrote: »when hotel formula is next door £33 a night
Probably because the Ibis serves food at night, whereas the cheap hotel doesn't? I can't imagine that the OP would have wanted to go out for dinner by herself after travelling for that long, and with the reverse journey the following day. Yes, I am assuming that the OP is female by her user name. Also, I'm sure that area of Liverpool is reasonably safe, but I don't blame the OP for playing it safe and eating in the hotel.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0 -

As OP was around 250 miles from home, a 'shoebox' is unlikely to have been readily available.
Unless you carry a shoebox of cash with you wherever you go.0 -
