If you've had your phone replaced by your own insurer (or by Apple under the Apple warranty), we can still unlock your phone, but you'll need to send us proof that you’ve replaced it.
Are you for real? It's obvious that this applies only to the phones supplied by EE and replaced later by other companies.

This means nothing in terms of locking.

balletshoes, the phone is locked to ee, only ee can unlock it. that's what virgin, apple and cpw are all saying.

Why can't you listen and comprehend?

The advice you are being given here is correct, and you are wrong.

I am an ex-EE employee, anoneemoose is a current EE employee. STOP thinking that EE is a singular network. EE is a company, it is made up of EE 4G, T-Mobile and Orange, it is also (via T-Mobile) a 50% shareholder in Virgin Mobile which runs on the EE 3G network.

Other than running on EE, Virgin is a seperate company and has nothing to do with EE. EE, the network, has no status to arrange unlocking of a Virgin Mobile locked handset. Just the same as O2 or Vodafone cannot do it.

Only Virgin Mobile can arrange this, anything you think you can try to get EE to process the unlock is just time wasting. You can beg, threaten, take them to CISAS or court, THEY CANNOT UNLOCK A PHONE LOCKED TO VIRGIN MOBILE.

Stop wasting your time and pursue the unlock with Virgin.

Marvellous, what an ignorant person, in fact, don't pay attention to my previous post, go and ask EE, go and ask the Pope in person.

Take as much time as you can pursuing this with EE.

  • Just to make you aware, Cpw consultants make 25p for selling you an unlocked iPhone, I doubt they lied to you to rip you off you probably asked wrong questions

    Who told you that ?

    Good luck sorting it out
  • Just to clarify I am not a current EE employee - in case I get virtually lynched! :D

I do however know a lot of people who still work there so that, coupled with my previous experience of Orange, gives me a good insight into some things.

Right, lets clear this thread up:

1: The warning should have been made clear by the salesman in carphone warehouse, he did not and he clearly stated it was "a good idea to buy an unlocked phone". I asked for an unlocked phone that I could use any and also change any sim.

2: It is not just 20 quid, its 20 quid plus the cost of getting the phone insured, as per instructions on EE website. Frankly it should be free !

3: Virgin are nothing to do with this, I tried them and they said its 100% down to EE and EE only.

4: I have tried 2 unlock shops and they both tried and said sorry, they didn't charge me.

5: I did not buy an iphone as a status symbol or toy, I bought it for personal and business use. Yes, I should have purchased an unlocked Samsung but at the time I had several collegues with unlocked iphones advising me to purchase one.

6: I had a threeway conversation with a senior tech at apple and CW, the apple guy really tried hard for me but in the end realised that if CW wanted to actually help they still could not because its locked to EE and now out of their control.

7: Two weeks ago I emailed EE to ask why they require an insurers letter, they did not reply, im about to try again.
    .
Phew, thanks to those who answered my original questions

Senior tech at Apple? Who will have no idea about the commercial arrangements that Apple make with retailers.

Also, In my experience they are not very technical at all, they just operate Apples policy and have no knowledge of anything outside that.

I think you may have misread the EE website, an insurers letter is needed for unblocking a handset not unlocking.

It's not just CPW iPhones that Apple lock to the first SIM. It's part of Apple's agreement with several retailers worldwide.

Practical advice - just pay to get it unlocked.
