Quality mattresses shouldnt soften that much in 2 years,

It's a Sealy £2,000 bed and divan, so it should be quality.
That said, it had a sort of built in topper which I think is to blame, but we'll probably just get a new one when the finance is up, it seems that it isn't covered by the warranty as it hasn't sunk below prescrbed limits and they've said it is softening over time as to be expected. Hmm!

I'm sorry this is too late for you, dizzydimble, but buying a quality mattress should require hours of research - probably dozens of hours of research - before making a purchase. We got our "first" at the end of last year, and it took almost as much research as buying our house! Buying a car the other month was a doddle in comparison. You really do need to know the ins and outs of each different mattress material and combination thereof, not to mention how much you should be paying and what guarantees/warranties mattress companies provide.

It's a highly personal choice - no 'one' mattress is the "best" - but there is a lot of good information available online to help. For example, we had ours custom-made at a mattress factory, cutting out the middleperson. We chose latex foam as it doesn't get as hot as memory foam. There are so many variables to investigate, but we sleep so much more soundly now that it's really paid off. In fact, despite the motivation for the new bed being to fully encompass my 193cm body, I'd say my partner's deeper, more resting sleep has been the biggest benefit. No more waking up tired. :)

A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

    Not true at all.

I bought a mattress just under 2 years ago, and it was perfect. Now it it's way too soft and it's almost intolerable.

Granted, it might be a longer time scale than we are talking about here, but still it has softened significantly over time.

That's my 15 years of being in the trade, numerous factory visits and 100's of beds tested completely out the window then!
Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz

Dont know if you heard the jeremy vine show today and the abundance of counterfeit mattresses on the market, maybe you got one of those.

you could have second hand inners with a new cover :eek::eek:
  • Back to OP:

Suggestion: buy a topper for your new concrete mattress. I have a feather topper which is thick and wonderful to sink into but is supported by a firm mattress.

Don't buy a cheap topper - not worth the money. Yes, you may say that spending even more money is a downer, but if you cannot return the mattress it is a solution....

(My feather/down topper was from John Lewis for a king size = £150 ish I think about 3 years ago)

    Err , no ?
Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.
