Scottish power online meter reading problem

Iv'e had so many problems since regretably switching to Scottish power ( their customer service is shocking ) but a new problem has come to light .The new electric meter they advised to be fitted has 5 digits on the reading ,but their online meter reading page has 8 spaces to fill in . I e-mailed the customer service team ( fed up of being on hold for over an hr at a time with no answer on the phone) and they advised to put zero's before my reading ,but this does not work and they have now stopped responding to my e-mails . I don't know what penalty I would have to leave them ,but I can't wait for my year to elapse to go elsewhere

I'm not had any problems entering meter readings online with SP. I usually put in leading zeros and it goes through ok. What's the error message?
  • No SP has 8 counters do you mean a single rate meter, [ignore any digits in red or which come after the decimal point], see here !

Well I've had a look at my online account page and it gives both Electric and Gas. For each there are greyed out boxes saying Meter Type, Serial No, Previous Read Date and Previous Read reading. The Current Meter Read has 5 boxes to enter the data.

Unless they have set your account with an incorrect meter I don't know why you are seeing 8 boxes. However, I'm not sure any meters would have 8 digits or even 7 digits and the decimal digit.

I think you would be best contacting them.
  • There are only 3 types of electric meter tariff listed on the SP site :

    - electric 1 - Rate Meter
    - electric 2 - Rate Meter
    - electric Dial Meter

Each of these has 6 digits plus a red one [which you can ignore]. None of SP's meters has 8 digits including gas, the only exception would be the electric 2 - rate meter which is actually 2 different readings of 5 digits each for the E7 & E10 tariff's. So capture [ALT PrtScn] a picture of the web-page and send it to the group so we can see it and make an objective comment.

  • Hi,

there is a SP app, maybe you could try that.

thanks again , not too great on the pc tbh ,tried it and failed , yes it's a 2 rate meter and yes it has 5 digits for each rate on the meter and the webpage has definitly 8 digits for each rate to submit .As they are not responding to any e-mails I am now on the phone to them , been on hold for 30 mins so far , all I can think is the service from Scottish power is so bad ,that's why so many people are on the phone with problems and why iv'e never actually been able to speak to anybody . An hour is the longest iv'e waited to date . Can't wait to get out of this contract !
  • I have no idea what you are talking about, your two rate meter looks like this, taken from my account two minutes ago :
    icku1ye.png

    - you put your new 5 digit night readings in the empty box's on the top one
    - and your new 5 digit day readings in the empty box's on the bottom one
    - then click submit

Ring their 0800 number and ignore completely all instructions - and wait - a human will answer within two minutes. If you are seeing anything different to the above picture I have no idea where on the internet you are - but you are not on the SP site.

  • SP customer service is dreadful. There is a problem with my on line account which I first noticed in May 2013. Apparently I am one of many customers who have been affected. I am unable to input meter readings or receive billing information. I have to phone my readings through, but SP like to test the patience of their customers and are unable to answer their phones within 45 minutes, Oh what a painful waste of my life it is to deal with SP. When/if I get through before I've died of boredom awaiting someone to pick up the phone, they say there is nothing they can do with my meter readings because of a computer error with my account (and many other peoples'). They have been unable to generate any billing information for me since I first contacted them in May and they have no idea when their computers will be able to rectify these issues. I ring up every month and get the same answer that they have no idea when their computers will be fixed. I have complained and suggested they manually work out my bill but they cant do that either. I say to them that months of being unable to generate me any billing info is ridiculous and they basically say tough. My account is in credit (I have worked this much out for myself!) and I have asked for a refund, but they can't do that either because their computers aren't working. I am sick of their dreadful customer service. So I have cancelled my direct debit (I did this as soon as I realised they were not intending to release any of my credit balance due to their broken computer systems) and am switching to the CoOp. I wonder if I will ever get my credit back from SP or if I will ever hear anything from them again. During this saga I am always the one chasing for a bill and for information, they have never once contacted me spontaneously to let me know there has been an issue or exactly what the problem is or to keep me updated. GOODBYE Scottish Power, it has NOT been a pleasure!
