PennySaving wrote: »Morning, I really like your envelope idea and the positivity of waking to an envelope full of money each day. I would be fantastic at budgeting like this but 3 children all in double figures would definitely throw a spanner in the works! :rotfl:
Keep us all up to date on your letters to the PDL. Fingers crossed!
I hope work isn't too bad today, Mondays can be a real drag!
Thanks Pennysaving
I hope your Monday is OK too!
I know what you are saying about the kids and unexpected expenses jumping out of the airIts the same for me
What I thought though is if its all split between the envelopes, its showing me how much I can spend each day to keep on an even keel! If the worst came to the worst and I needed say £10 extra that day and there were 10 days to payday I 'could' take £1 from each of the remaining envelopes for that month and still have a nice 'pot' each day and have solved my emergency?
I am full of ideas that I just dropI do think this is worth persevering with though. I have suffered and received a bit of abuse for not looking at my bank balance because I don't want to spoil my mood - its no good holding my breath at the cash machine....I think this may suit me :rotfl:

The envelope idea sounds great! but I agree, the unexpected demands from kids would not let it work or methis weekend being a typical example......have hidden my headf in sand but we must be £300 down ...oops?

The envelope idea could work for you NOA. If you are down £300 over the weekend then its £150 in each envelope....it would work fine0 -
I am starting the envelope/pot system too but like a few have said kids can spoil the routine  I am going to have a pot for just these instances if the ice-cream van comes around, if he has a birthday invite or bowling, pocket money etc but I will ensure he knows that once it has gone for the week/month it has gone it probably won't be til January now tho with Christmas coming up but hopefully we will be able to put his child benefit in the pot a month and this MUST cover everything from his football cons to new clothes..
Really sorry about Conga it would have given everyone of us a boost to see everyones numbers coming down ... Like you said this is def a saving face cry by them hope the complaint does the trick...Weightloss -36.5lb/64lb.

Hi Aloof Dragon!
You do not sound 'aloof' and certainly not a 'dragon!'
I'm having a go at the envelope budgeting - I intended to last month but by the time I got around to it, it was too late and I gave up
With my DD's I never know what's going to come up. I think the idea could work for anybody. If I didn't use the envelope system, what would happen if I suddenly make a big withdrawal? Knowing me I'd pretend it hadn't happened and keep putting the card in the machine until......:(
Using the envelopes if I'm borrowing money from the next week then at least I know that and can adjust my spending!
it makes sense to me

The 'envelope budgeting' is coming in at the end of this week.....definitely!!
I was in the office earlier today in a meeting. My phone was in the pocket of my shirt and I was getting multiple calls......the phone was on vibrate and it was going off all the time. I'm not sure if my nipple was happy but I certainly wasn't. Mrs. Brogden was ringing to say that the energy suppliers had visited and demanded I ring them back immediately. I spoke to them at lunchtime and agreed a payment on my debit card on Friday. Outside of a 'penalty charge' for the visit that was all fine. On the DMP Mutual Support Thread I have said a couple of times 'make sure your utilities are all up to date.' Well.....it makes me look like a plonker but then again maybe it doesn't.........everybody......make sure your utilities are up to date
I am looking at my cashflow for the next month and I will have to accept there will be little debt reduction in the short term. Why? I have, in addition to the electricity the following:-
- Bus lane fine
- Car insurance excess
Both of these need paying (in addition to......Eon)..........I suppose this is life.........?I also suppose that these are 'priority bills'.......of course they are although the bus lane fine really, really peeves me
I've been here before.....I am still here........pay it. It is just so blo*dy irritating when you set your heart on tackling debt that this sort of carp keeps coming up. Its a money making machine for somebody, it really is
I hope everybody is doing well and has had a good Wednesday

OH sounds a right pain in the neck day, poor nipple and poor Mrs Brogden too having to deal with these people.. Certainly not a plonker !! Glad you managed to beat them off with a stick til Friday at least.
I know I am about to hit a few walls too and probably quite soon, they say debts fluctuate before falling don't they.. As for the fine their S W ines I watched a programme back last year of the lil hitlers sitting in a room over looking the city watching and waiting for such people as yourself just laughing and joking jotting down registration numbers makes you sick, I totally understand the safety aspect etc I work in transport and the fines and points for this that and the other now can mean make or break for our drivers especially as it is so quiet work wise at the moment.
Thursday will be good !!! November will be amazing..
P.s do you read any other forums where there are others self managing their own debt plan by any chance ?Weightloss -36.5lb/64lb.

I wouldn't mind if the bus lane fine was because I was speeding down the bus lane at peak time to pass 200 cars in a traffic jam. I'd never do thatIn a strange city centre I accidentally turned into a road which was just a bus lane - realised immediately and got out of it within five seconds
The computer took a photo......the computer sent me a bill........
Self Managing DMPers?......I love the diaries of PinotGrigio41 / Noonearound / Grannyx2 / Historybuff - there are others but I think these three are in a similar-ish position to me.
They're all ladies though !!!Haha! If you ever want any self managed male company its a pleasure to have you call by so please pop in anytime

The bus lane wasn't Milton Keynes was it? I did exactly the same some years ago when a friend persuaded me to go there for shopping 3-4years ago -confusing layout, new town unfamiliar badly designed road with a bus lane where it shouldn't be ...and being "lady" driver didn't help;) Never been since!!
Very flattered to be in your DFW celebrity list!!!You could call it I'm in debt get me outta here.......
xx
PS I have boxes of envelopes and no spare cash to put in them, will be disheartening to pick up an empty envelope every morning:(Feb2014 Total unsecured debt £72,520>>01/06/16 £68166>01/02/17 £66,600=8.18%PAID

Good morning Aloof Dragon
The bus lane in question was in SheffieldYou know those people in Yorkshire - they like accumulating and keeping their ackers
Haha - I still like Sheffield!
When I mentioned the 'envelope system' a few people on various threads were very polite but they obviously thought I was completely mad! Well my friends......the 'system' starts today :T I am embarrassed to say it but.......well........I feel a little bit excited! I do :rotfl:!!!!!!
After I have paid my bus lane fine and some electricity arrears I am withdrawing a sum from the bank and filling my envelopes for the next month!
I hope everybody is on their best behaviour because if not I'm going to tell them all about my envelope budgeting! That said, if anybody is having trouble sleeping on their DMP, this may well be a big help to them
Have a great day all
