  • OK then for the pedantic amongst you - it is very unlikely that with only one entry allowed each week by any of the different methods and the vast number of entries received that a single person could have their entry picked out so often!

    Why not?

I must enter (via reg comps/dailies/CTW's/mag comps etc) at least 1,000 comps per day yet I have only had 5 wins total this year. You would think (and I certainly would have hoped) that I would have had more wins.

It really is the luck of the draw, so I guess there is a chance (however unlikely it seems - to me too) that someone is lucky enough to have their name shaken to the top of the pile often.

Also I am sure, a regular magazine comp holder would have some system in place that cancels out too many entries from any one person.

So this whole thread could be about you then?! :rotfl: :D

Congratulations on your wins - sometimes fate deals a lovely hand like that :) :T

Haha!! I hope not, but then, I'm not worried if it is as I haven't done anything I shouldn't have. I have a fairly unusual name (spoiler alert: real name isn't CrikeyBananas!!) so it would stick out a mile in a winners list, and equally, it'd be pretty easy for the mag to spot if I'd been up to no good.

Besides, the magazine is collating the winners list and passing on winning details for fulfilment, so I'm sure if they thought anything untoward was going on, they'd do something about it. These draws are all games of chance, and just because it seems strange that someone wins more than once in a short period of time, there's nothing statistically abnormal about that - everything averages out in the end given the sheer numbers involved.

That's lucky, as CrikeyBananas is really very common - you'd have a real job on those Google searches for prize wins... :D :rotfl:

Seriously, though, I agree with you: the lists they compile must get read and checked by the same person or group of people, who would notice names that come up a lot. Luck of the draw :)

Or not... Sometimes seems to me that there is a distinct lack of MSE winners considering just how many MSEers there are and how many comps these mags run! Just an example, try searching IWIWIW for Bella who have nearly 100 comps running simultaneously.

I win a lot more than I share on IWIWIW - I tend to thank posters individually by PM. There are many of us who choose not to share openly, so I would not consider IWIWIW to accurately reflect actual wins.

Regarding the Bella comps, I'm guessing if it's circa 100 comps, some are the Click to Wins?
If so, I think there are still a large number of compers who don't enter them... I am a relatively prolific comper, and average a win or two a week (which I don't usually share on IWIWIW, incidentally), but never enter the CTWs.

Are you suggesting that MSE compers don't win because we're from here? I think that conspiracy theory doesn't necessarily hold true, as it doesn't take into account things like RefControl, which means no one would know the person entering the comp linked from MSE.... Or those who bookmark magazines' comps pages and go there directly....

I would rather spend my time entering and winning, than speculating about whoever is lucky enough to have won :)

They are Bella branded Click to Wins where the prize/s are usually shared across at least 4 magazines and the main site - Bella, TAB, That's Life, TV Choice and Win Something.
There is a greater chance that winner/s will be from one of the other sites rather than Bella without even taking into account that entries from MSE will just be a small part of the total entries and most winners do not post in iwiwiw.

Bella has a winners list but it is the winners for all the click to wins that were on the Bella site it does not mean the winners entered via Bella.

  • Just been looking at the LaterLife winners lists.

    http://www.laterlife.com/laterlife-competition-winners-circle.htm

I was fascinated to see a very unusual surname ( at least I had never seen it before) appearing on 3 out of the 24 lists shown.

However I will be quick to say I doubt whether there would be anything devious afoot there. The website in question I imagine would not be well subscribed to but yet they do seem to be quite generous with the prizes even though most of them are just theatre tickets etc .

It just goes to show some competitions are more worth entering than others.
