Which shops are you referring to McKneff? Next certainly is not one on them, nor are M&S, Boots or John Lewis.

Tesco and B&Q also give full refunds irrespective of whether or not there is a sale on when the goods are returned.
In fact, I can't think of a single shop that has a returns policy like the one mentioned by McKneff

IKEA and PC World/Currys also have the full refund if a receipt with the full price is presented, even if the product is in the sale.

The only issue is if you don't have a receipt, IKEA will refund at the lowest sale price over the last 6 months, and Currys won't do anything with proof of purchase in most cases.

Not so, because you could have bought one at full price, then another one in the sale at half price, then taken the sale one back and used the full price receipt to get a refund of the higher price. That's why most shops have this policy when a sale is on. Common sense really

If you have a receipt and the shop has a returns policy then you will be refunded whatever price is on the receipt. They can't refund you at the sale price. The only time you'll get the sale price back rather than full price is if you don't have a receipt.

They can if that's what their returns policy states (statutory rights not affected etc)
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

I've never come across a shop that would do this.

You should be able to get a full refund in the 28 days.

However, they may try to be awkward and refuse to sell you the same product again at the lower price. You have no automatic 'Right' to buy anything off them. It may mean going to another store, with the chance of not having the same sizes in. You cannot just take them back and re buy them. They will most likely go into the back and sent to one of the outlet stores, even if they are ok and not worn.

Me neither. But they could if they wanted.

I would look for the sale goods first and buy it, then take the original for a refund.

    Have done that with M&S
  • As said you can re buy the item and they take the original back for a refund. But unfortunately thats life and if you where happy at the time of purchase with the item then just move on if you dont want to take back for a refund.

And whilst we are on the subject of M&S.......

I think I vaguely remember they apply an indelible stamp to the labels of sale goods which makes sure they refund the correct price if it's returned
