Appliances Direct took my money!

Along time ago back in March I ordered a washing machine from Appliances Direct and arranged for someone to be at my house for the delivery.

It was delivered and left still in the packaging, when I opened it it was badly damaged. I called and was told the delivery drivers were paid to take away the packaging, which they hadn't. They agreed to replace but it was out of stock for a week, did I want the damaged w/m collected immediately? I didn't want to have to arrange for my 'house sitter' to come for three days in total so agreed to have collection on the same day as the new delivery.

Accept a week later when they came to collect my washing machine they didn't have another one to replace it with.

Since then my countless emails and complaints (which I asked to be escalated) and threats of legal action have been totally ignored, no reply what so ever.

I am having to use my old broken washing machine, my money has not been refunded for the one that was never delivered including the £20 delivery! And the special offer of £50 cash back has long since expired.

So say I'm frustrated is an understatement, the stress of having to sort it and have it hanging over me is not nice to say the least!

Do any one have any ideas of what I can do?

  • Send them a letter before action giving them 14 days to refund your money and saying that if they don't you will take them to court for it (if you search 'letter before action' you'll be able to find templates). If your money is not refunded institute a claim through money claim online.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

    How did you pay?

If by credit card, then consider asking your card issuer for a refund under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.
    More information here:
If by debit card, then maybe a chargeback is possible, but there are time limits.
