Update
I bought some Hills on offer cos Focus was closing down :T and I had already bought some IAMS. Also had some nice samples of Burns sent me:T
They werent sure of the Hills at first as the bits are really bigbut they ate them for a few days and then they seemed to stop. So my OH tried them with IAMS but they didnt seem to like them at all. Well having spent a fortune I wasnt going to let them go to waste to i just mixed the two up and continue to serve them those :rotfl: .
Basically they seem to be eating less which was the whole object, either because theyre full or they dont like them :rotfl:
They did like the burns samples so i might try them next. You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0 -
We've recently "adopted" two kittens and I wondered if anyone could give me any advice as to what to feed them?
At the minute they're getting either Whiskers or Felix meat in jelly and James Wellbeloved complete kitten food, but neither of them seem very keen!! They'll eat a little bit when I first put it down but then seem to loose interest and I really don't think they'e eating enough.
They went to the vet last week and she suggested giving them fish, well of course they wolfed that down but even though I weaned them off it very gradually they're now tuning their noses up at cat food! They seem much more interested in whatever we're having .
Should I worry or not? Will they eat when they're hungry? Lula is apparently only half the weight she should be (although she seems fine in herself - typical crazy kitten!) so I really don't want her to loose any more weight.
Obviously they always have access to fresh water, and they've been wormed...
Any advice please??
Thanks

Hello, hello.
Plain chicken worked for me. Used to buy the ready roasted (no seasoning) ones from Tesco's at the end of the day when they are reduced but anything similar will do. Generally just give them the breast, especially if they have any tummy upsets too.
Maybe only give them small portions of the kitten food too at regular intervals. My kitten refused to eat his kitten food, insisting on eating grown up food!
Cat owners rule #1 Cats will rarely do what you want them too.
I'm sure their appetites will grow but good luck all the same"As a cure for worrying, work is better than whiskey"0 -
try mixing the fish and kitten food in 50:50, then slowly reduce the amount of fish in, also kits have tiny stomachs so little and often is the best way, have fun with them, they wont be small for long0

Hi I have the same problem with my kitten, well he is actually 5 months old + but turns his nose up at everything I have offered him (commercial cat foods, dry, wet ...)
I tried leaving it down all day but he refused to eat it and kept crying so now I feed him cooked chicken, prawns, minced beef and fish (cod mainly) although he has had salmon and sardines!
He eats better than we do now! I never had this problem with my other 2 cats so was bewildered at first but hes healthy and happy now (and spoiled!)
Good Luck with your two.0 -
I alwas start with cat food in gravy - easier for them as they have some more moisture, I just mash the food up a little, and everyday is different, so they get a variety, has always helped with our new additions~*Cerenia*~

How old are your kittens? You could also give them lactol - (special kitten/puppy milk) it's about £4 a tin you mix it with water, but works a treat. My kitten put on weight as she was very underweight when I got her and she's in really good health now.£2 Savers Club joined 24/09/07, saved so far £8.00 :T

can you give 6 month old kittens "older cat" food?- a few yrs ago when i had kittens there wasn't a kitten variety around (that I recall).
Our kitten is bored of Whiskas and Felix Kitten too, the older ones look far more appealing:A 17/10/07-Started Rosemary Conley :ATotal loss so far= 4 stone 7lbs!In the magazine Sept 08:T0 -
When we got Willow, we bought her James Wellbeloved kitten food and a variety of kitten pouches. We also have 2 older cats and found she preferred the adult cat food  I e-mailed JWB and was told she would be ok eating the adult food occaisonally and once she gets to 10 months, it would be safe to feed her entirely on the adult. Well so far, she eats the adult JWB and the oldies eat the kitten food. She also eats the adult wet food as well. We also give her poached chicken breasts and tinned tuna flakes (she only gets the tuna once a week) She seems fine on this and dives around the house like a lunatic, the oldies seem to have a new lease of life too.
Like jo6673 says, years ago kitten food wasnt available, it was just cat food and that was it. I remember my parents getting kittens and puppies and they didnt have all this worry about whether they should be feeding kitten/puppy food, they just bought what was availabe and the pets (as far as I know) thrived on it.
