How do you unblock an iPhone 4

How do you unblock an iPhone 4? I have connected it to my laptop and the iPhone screen states "iPhone is disabled" "connect to iTunes".

Also, my sister owns the iPhone and she wants everything deleted of it because someone is buying it from her and she doesn't want them to have access to any of the things she had on the phone.

I had to go for the recovery mode and it states the software update will take 13 hours!! :eek:

I cannot get the settings amended but perhaps it is because I cannot concentrate because I am going to the doctors now, should be back in an hour.
