Things to do in Belgium

B-Park in Brugge has a big carrefour supermarket(if you look at their website you can find the nearest to you). If you can try and go in a colyrot as they give out lots of free samples. Also a trip to Ostende and walk along the front is ok,town has gone down hill abit over the years but still worth a few hours walking around. Also go out by the airport both sides of airport are two out of town shopping areas.
The Carrefour Planet at B-Park is the one I go to. For some reason they won't let you sign up to the loyalty card like the French branches. Good beer and crisp selection (try Bicky flavour!).
I also like the branch of Maison du Monde next to it. No petrol station though. For the OP, I go there on my way back to Calais so I can buy some fresh things and it takes an hour to Calais.
In Ostend I found a great chicken and beer restaurant. Can't remember the name but I found it on tripadvisor and it just serves half a roast chicken with bread that you eat with your hands and a huge beer for under €100 -
you seem to have missed this bit in post #1
"...without driving all the way to Brussels,"
and Spa is twice as far
You're right, I did miss it, but which would you choose to drive to, a day out in Brussels (which you can probably get to by train anyway) or a day driving around Spa? And neither of them are going to take that long to get to.0 -

It might be too far for this trip, but I didn't even know this existed. My 15 yr old has just gone Wow! When I showed him, so I think it's going to be on the list for another time.....0 -

I must admit I wasn't sure you could do it either, but to me it's much more attractive than the Nurburgring.0 -
Watching this thread as we'll be staying in France in the half term, but only an hour from Belgium so hoping to fit in a day trip there, already spotted Popperinge as it's the nearest town in Belgium to where we will be!June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

I enjoyed both Veurne and Nieuwpoort when I visited Belguim. I have been to Bruges as well, but decided to offer up different suggestions.

Nieuwpoort.....I got stupidly excited about seeing tramslol

VeurneThe Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0 -

You won't get any decent pictures, but you'll certainly have time to get to know every setting!
Preferably use a film camera, and when you take the film to be developed (in Belgium of course), watch every stage of the process, because that will be the most interesting thing you see in Belgium;)
Not that Belgium is boring or anything - honest:eek:
The only thing which I can think of is a trip to Bruges, particularly if you like chocolate and exorbitantly priced food in the Market Square restaurants.0 -

I agree, I would choose Spa - I've raced there several times, but I suspect it may hold little interest for the OP, as if they think driving to Brussels is a long way then v unlikely to be petrolheads. The 15 year old shows promise though!
I wonder if he or parents know about the Under 17 Car Club?

Another one for Bruges and add Ghent0

The only reason I discounted Brussels was because I didn't france going there just for a supermarket!
Although I am not your typical petrol head, I do enjoy driving and love the Grand Prix.. We are already doing a lot of driving as we are coming from the West Country and I am very conscious there is a lot to see and we only really have three days.
Oh, and as my DH has said - to race around the circuits, we ought to be taking his car, not mine! His is the more sporty, mine more the family bus.
I don't know whether I ought to look at the under 17 club0
