Cheapest/best ways to get fit and exercise?

If the little one is in play group, then you have a window for doing something like running or swimming.
I learned to run using the free NHS couch to 5k podcasts. It only takes 30-40 minutes 3x a week. I struggled to complete the first session but can now run for 30 minutes. There is a support forum too and it's obvious that some mums run pushing a buggy! Running is cheap - nice to have all the gear (check out lidl and aldi for cheap stuff) but all you actually need is a pair of trainers, and running round streets and parks is free.
It's worth checking out whether your local gym/pool have a crèche.
And occasionally you can pick up an exercise bike on freecycle. Ideal for use when the little one is in bed.0 -
Walking and jogging is the best way to get fit and healthy.0

Being FIT is very subjective and it much depends what the OP`s interpretation is. Certainly running or even walking will have a positive impact on ones fitness but you can be fit without . IN context ,I spent several years as an elite level competitive cyclist ,won a couple of national championships in my day . Fitness figures were VO2 max 75ml/min/kg. 7% body fat . 7.2 w/kg. Yet I couldn't run to the bus stop if I wanted to.0 -
MyFitnessPal's App combined with a fitness tracker really worked for me - see exactly whats "going in" and "coming out".
Sometimes i've even been known to give the dog a quick extra walk round the block so i can have a snack!0 -
Cheapest way to keep fit. Come and rake the moss out of my 1/4 acre lawn. That's after you have cleared up all the leaves and filled the compost heaps.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
As lr1277 suggested, skipping is a great way to keep fit. You don't have to leave the house (or garden if your ceilings aren't tall high enough) and all you need is a rope. It doesn't take long either as it's hard work!0

YouTube and/or dvds on exercising at home. Perhaps check your local library for sources such as books as well.0

I like my stationary exercise bike. There's always loads going cheap for local collection on eBay/gumtree etc. Works up a good sweat, and you can do it while watching tv.0

In your home, you can do basic stretches for a few minutes to an hour. Whenever you have more free time, you can jog around your neighborhood. Jogging really helps. This is one of the best ways for me to get fit without spending anything except for the shoes and appropriate clothes to wear.0

There are loads of great (and free) tutorials on youtube for workouts, which is a great way to try different things and mix it up. There is Jillian Micheals Kettlebell workout, which i really enjoy. The only thing i would note is that it would be worth doing some online reading first to build a picture of a workout rather than simply mixing and matching. I.e create a plan to work different parts of the body on different days and select workouts that accomplish the task in hand.0
