When I had dd - now 6 - I changed to exercising at home. I used - and still use - Zuzka Light and bodyrock. Some are pure bodyweight workouts, some require equipment. But worth a perusal...

    Good luck!

    Hi

I am led to believe that 80% to 90% of desired weight loss can be achieved with diet, the rest being exercise.
So what are you eating and can you cut back? In the last week, I have switched to meat, a little carbohydrates and lots of salad. When I say a little carbohydrate, I am talking about things like breaded chicken and no other carbohydrate than the breading. I lost 1.5kg over the past week. (I also have managed about 30 min of low-medium intensity exercise every day this past week.) If I do need carbs, I eat an apple or have some crackers.
In your case do you snack? Say on your child's meals? I know parents that do that and put on weight.
In terms of exercise have you considered skipping? Can be done at home if you have the space and floorboards. A few books and youtube videos can get you started if you need. If you do decide to skip, please start slowly and remember to stretch your calves very well after each session.

    Just my initial thoughts. HTH.

this. this is all you need to lose weight (and a little motivation). 80% diet, 10% exercise, 10% perseverance. also, learning to eat healthy now will definitely promote clean eating in your child as well, so there's always that plus. :)

    Hi wiggywoo9,

The Change4Life website has some great ideas and tools to help you to get active and move more!

For example, you will find suggestions for all ages on the 'Get Going' section, including active hobbies and sports you could try. Our 'Fun Generator' mobile app has over 100 activities that families can access on the go, plus you can search for specific local activities you can try out in your area.

Being active is all about having fun - if you don't enjoy it, you won't keep it up! - so try as many things as you need to until you find the right one/s for you.

    Good luck!

Join a club or group that does different outdoor activities. This will give you the opportunity to make new friends and discover new places at the same time as getting fitter and more active.

I've been a member of an outdoor club for many years. We do day walks, summer evening walks, weekend trips away, trips abroad, cycling, mountain biking, white water rafting, climbing, caving etc etc.

The above club is London-based and aimed at adults rather than families, but you may well find something similar that is local to you and family oriented. There are quite a few of these sorts of groups in different parts of the country.
  • You have to exercise daily and take care of your diet. I think this makes you slimmer then before. Doing exercise daily is very good habit. I think everyone should opt it.
  • Walking. Start small, say half a mile on the flat, then slowly build up, incorporate hills and extend the length of the walks. Do it regularly. Plan the walks, keep a diary.
    Costs nothing.
Overhaul your diet. As little as possible crisps, chocolate, biscuits, fizzy drinks, stodgy food. Diluting orange with chilled tap water, fruit and nuts. Chicken instead of ready meals. Don't have a heavy meal later in the evening.
    You will spend less.

Discipline, perseverance, and planning is the key.

If you need a little extra motivation the Jillian Michaels 30day shred DVD is really good. It has short workouts, (20mins) but you really feel like you've worked hard. You could probably pick up a cheap copy on ebay or look out in charity shops.

I second doing the 30 shred, its a good 20 minute exercise routine and your son could perhaps join in some jumping around of his own.:j:j

  • Get a copy of bodyfit by Josh Salzmann. Got this few months ago for couple of quid as it's quite old and getting good results. Just need dumbbells or you could use bottles of water for some of the exercises.
  • Losing weight is very different to getting fit.

For losing weight just try eating more regularly. Every 3-4 hours. This keeps up your metabolic rate throughout the day.

Make each meal protein based, reduce fat intake a little but seriously cut down on the sugar.

Introduce more spices such as chilli powder - these help with the metabolic rate too.

My current go-to quick food is either a pack of chicken piri-piri pieces or chicken tikka.

Eating more food and tastier food to cut weight :) Bonus!

As for the getting fit part - well that involves a little hard work mixed in with the above.

If you can put up with that irritating woman for the entire 20 mins! So glad when my wife got to day 31.

Its all on youtube and vimeo - no need to spend your hard earned/saved lucre.
