American Airlines: UK postal address needed

Help appreciated with the UK postal address of American Airlines.

We've just returned from a trip involving an internal US flight booked via American in the UK and a homebound Chicago-Manchester flight with American Airlines itself.

In over 40 years of international travel we have never encountered more blunders and more witlessness as we have with this airline. It appears to lose customer documentation and customer information to so great an extent that I'm not sure if it's a security risk in itself, seeing as in our painful experience it appears not to have a clue who is travelling on its flights in and out of and across the USA.

Though we'll deal with Better Business Bureau and the FAA ourselves on that aspect of American Airline's uselessness, we need to initiate the formal complaints, refunds and negotiated compensation process with the airline itself.

Unfortunately, its UK contact information provides only for email contact with Customer Relations, and all emails are hobbled with strictly limited character counts. We need rather more than an email to sort this out.

I really cannot thank you both enough: instant help, saved me hours of faffing around while I'm still semi jet-lagged. Oh, and good advice too about keeping it as concise as possible. . . and as calm as possible, too, which is why I'm giving it another full day before sitting down to write that letter.

Fortunately, our encounters with American Airlines in regard to this trip have been many and varied and fully documented right from the start -- including the airline's own emailed, non-scripted replies at that time (which subsequently turned out to be meaningless.)

So yes. It'll be like an old-time Dragnet script. Just the facts. On this date, at this time /on that date/at that time. Forget emotions: screaming at an airline gets you even less further than if you were flying with it.

Please keep us updated. I recently had problems on an AA flight, and their response to my emailed complaint was woeful, so I'd be interested to see how you get on.

Will do -- though it may be a little while, seeing as how so many problems occurred with American that I'm beginning to wonder if the airline isn't entirely dysfunctional. Sorry to learn of your experience.

'S probably best if I don't bore anyone with the details at this time. I will say, however, that if you're offered a choice between buying flight tickets from American Airlines or from Laker Airways, choose the latter. Neither purchase will conform to legal contract nor reasonable expectation but at least with Laker, you won't be charged 5p a minute to ring up and find out why.

The fact that codger thinks it'd be less painful to fly with them rather than American probably tells you what codger thinks of American Airways at the moment...
