Switch to British Gas?

I have recently moved in my new house and EDF Energy and Powergen are the current gas and electricity providers. From a moneysaving point of view, can anybody let me know whether I should switch to one single supplier? If yes, would British Gas be the best option?

Many thanks

BG are cheaper nowadays than some other suppliers, but when it comes to customer service they still have big issues to solve. Southern Electric are supposed to be quite good.

these customer service issues... are they related specifically to the switch or in general?

I'm considering a move as well and to manage the account online as much as I possibly can.

What should I be on the look-out for?

    Thanks

I suspect new on-line accounts will be no problem.

They have just introduced a new computer system for on-line accounts and it has been the migration from the old system to the new system that has caused many of us problems.

I've been with BG 12 months - very soon to move to Scottish Power. A nightmare 12 months. Customer service abismal.
  • Is BG customer call centre an overseas one or UK based?

I think the BG call centre is out of this world. :D

I've had big problems with BG from a customer service point of view both at the time of a switch to them in Dec 05, and ongoing. I recently had a competitve quote from Powergen which should save me a little bit, although I had decided I would switch even if I didn't save anything.

BG - funnily enough they switched my electricity without problem but it's been the gas that has caused me nearly 10 months of grieve - they still haven't sorted it out and initially put my DD at £68/ month - way too much. When I phoned to complain, I was told the account could not be changed due to an error (theirs not mine) - it all went to a UK dept who are now sorting it out (they say it will take 28 days - that's next week - so I'll be phoning them for an update). If all else fails, I'll check uswitch again (I got my £15 last time for the switch over - horah!) and switch in November time for cheaper utilities if BG don't get their proverbial out of their proverbial rear!

I've just (two months ago) switched from Ebico (Southern Electric) to BG - went smoothly, and my first two months have cost me £14.50. Bahrgain!
