Which BMW should I buy for a 4-people family?

Our family includes two adults and two children. We would like to buy a used BMW, up to 5 years old, 1.8 engine, automatic.

Could you pls advise which BMW is suitable for a family?

My sincere thanks

    Why a BMW?
  • As you already know you want a BMW and that engine, just pop a long to a dealer with your family and sit in a few.
  • Why BMW? It's just that my wife wants a used BMW.

I found a used BMW 1 SERIES 116d SE. Is it good enough for a family?

    Regards,
  • I would say that a 1-series really isn't big enough for a family of 4, we have one and had to buy another car to fit 4 of us in comfortably. It is fine for short journeys but if anything long (ish) not really practical, especially if you have a buggy, bags, and all other things that go with small children. Our children are under 1 and 4, but I guess if older may be suitable.

Why not go and have a look, see for yourself?

Your choice is really going to be 1-series, 3-series, X1, X3. It shouldn't take a lot of effort to narrow your choice down.

How old are the kids, cos 1 series are TINY in the back and don't have a lot of boot space.

I would say that a 1 series is a bit small as a family car and if i was you I would be looking at a 3 series at least

what sort of journeys will you be doing and what sort of budget do you have
  • Thank you. Our current car is the Nissan Primera 2002, and it is big enough for us. It seems that BMW 1 is smaller than this.

So as you suggest, I would only look at Series 3.

I am looking at a BMW 3 SERIES 320d SE 4dr. Does anyone know why it has the 'semi auto' gearbox type? I only have the licence for automatic car, so don't know if the semi auto is proper.

In case you didn't know (and it's something important to you), split folding rear seats are an optional extra on many BMWs.

    Seriously.
