I use limewire and torrents daily, have done for years- and no infections yet. I can spot a fake file a mile off
Great, now I'm either naiive or stupid. I've never opened an exe or any other file that I wasn't sure was ok. Didn't stop me getting infected though. I don't even use p2p etc."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I was only teasing about the calling stupid comment. But yes it was from another thread that turned into a mac fanboy thing about OSX being the most secure OS in the world so I decided to argue that RISC OS was far more secure than OSX and he'd completely ignored Linux's existence as well in all the arguments about "no mac viruses". Decided "two can play at that game" and let loose my Acorn fanboy side."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

No thank you, if you want to risk running with no AV software thats up to you.
When people pay a considerable sum for computers and equipment and then leave themselves open to getting virus infections when there are plenty of free AV programmes or for the sake of a few quid a year would rather put themselves at risk then that is their problem, but the viruses and other nasties out there are not something the average non techy computer user wants or needs to be infected with.0 -

Says it all really.:rolleyes:0 -
Seriously will someone explain to me how a non-idiot can get a virus on your system?0

Have you heard on lovebug, codered, sasser, the list is endless, and you often don't have to do anything, they come to you.
As I have mentioned before, I have twice clicked on links on this forum, and twice my AV kicked off. One of those links was an idiot posting it on purpose, one was someone who didn't know his own (perfectly respectable site ) was infected.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

Exactly, every infection I've had personally has been passive with no active installation by me. And I hope I'm not being too arrogant in saying that I wouldn't describe myself as an idiot and certainly not computer illiterate. And so far mascherano hasn't addressed my first person POV examples of virus infection."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Has also happened to me, AV prevented a trojan being downloaded to pc through a perfectly innocent personal site and the site owner had no idea the trojan was there. The ISP shut down the site when they confirmed it after I reported it. I'm sure I imagined all of that as well."She is quite the oddball.
