Hi
Just wondering if anyone knows the cheapest place to buy a wallpaper stripper. We have 4 rooms of wallpaper to remove and have been advised to buy as opposed to renting? Any advice?
Thanks,
Kim

Being a decorator I would advise you to hire, the difference between a professional steamer and a diy one over 4 rooms could be quite a few hours. What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
Thanks Paul.
Do you know roughly how much it costs to hire per day/week? Just a rough guide would be great!

Don't konw where you live but our local trade decorator supplies one for £50 over a weekend.THE SHABBY SHABBY FOUNDER0

I bought one from B & Q for £20. It stripped off the woodchip in my 2 bed semi no problems.Total Original Debt: £30404.24
Current debt: £18586.16
Total Paid: £11857.74 38.95% :T0 -
i agree with ashli , you can pick up a decent one for £20 that will do the job
before you do buy , see if the front of wall paper will peel off , leaving the backing , which can be soaked with water and then it comes off really easy0 -

I was thinking of buying one, but as I'd heard this opinion before, I've decided to hire one for £25/week. The way I see it is that a cheapy argos one will cost the same, be less efficient, and once the wallpaper is off I won't need it again.
I'm getting it this weekend, so I'll let you know how I get on.0 -

Good evening: We bought a cheapie steam stripper a few years back at http://www.wickes.co.uk/invt/610001 does a decent job but for our latest project I used water applied with a roller for the regular paper...needed to dry strip the hideous vinyl paper (top layer only) with one of these http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?cId=102100&ts=61015&id=16530 then the bottom layer as previously mentioned. If you decide to rent one http://www.brandontoolhire.co.uk/directory/prodView.asp?idproduct=181

Hi,
Unless you have dry lined walls make sure your plaster is in reasonable shape before stripping, try taping walls in lots of places, if it doesn't sound solid then you may find that a steamer will mean that you'll need a re-skim.

They are effective but just be careful. The one I borrowed was like a plastic kettle with a long hose and of course it's filled with boiling water! Ouch. Hurts lots!!! Every time you move and the hose touches your leg you are reminded that it's awful hot. Drippy steam isn't nice either!Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0
