iPad Return - Very

Hi all,

I bought an iPad from Very received it on the 16th of September but upon turning it on it had issues with WiFi (Every other device in my house has no issues whatsoever), I spent all day trying different things to get it to be reliable and not randomly disconnect or just not load anything up anyway I decided to just give up after reading that this is an issue many have experienced and return it for a refund.

I completed the "Model Cancellation Form" (Within the cancellation period) and emailed it to the address Very supplied regarding the aforementioned form and received an email asking me to call up to arrange a collection but upon arranging a collection I was told that I could not return it under their "28 Day Approval Guarantee" as it has been "connected". On their returns info they state the details of their 28 day approval guarantee:

"We will replace or refund most goods provided they are returned to us within 28 days of receipt complete, unused, in their original packaging and with any security tags intact. Our Approval Guarantee does not apply to some goods or may apply only if certain conditions are met. These goods are identified on the product page and any such conditions are set out there. Returns are free under our Approval Guarantee. If you return goods outside the scope of the Approval Guarantee and you have not exercised your legal right to cancel (explained below) we reserve the right to return the goods to you at your cost or to accept their return subject to making a deduction for any loss in value of the goods arising from your handling of them and a charge to cover our processing cost."

and below this outline "Your Right To Cancel Your Order under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations.".

I was flat out refused a return (Although I did just say it wasn't suitable due to the wifi issues instead of saying its faulty) do I have any recourse or am I in the wrong here.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated and apologies for the long post.

You also have another option to walk into your nearest Apple store and they will resolve the issue for you, generally replacing it there and then if it is genuinely faulty. Apple customer service is one of the best I have encountered
"I think I spent 72.75% of my life last year in the office. I need a new job!!"
  • The issue with ipads are once they are switched on and registered with apple you cannot erase that and they cannot be resold on. Apple would be your best bet to get it fixed or asking for it to be repaired or replaced.
  • If it is inherently faulty then you have the right to reject it for a full refund. This right comes from the Sale of Goods Act, not the CCR's. If the refund is what you want then contact Very and tell them you are rejecting it under the Sale of Goods Act. Of course if there is no inherent fault then you don't have this right.
  • Well it does have a fault in that it won't stay connected to wifi or connects everything looks fine but it wont load anything up in the browser or load anything in the app store. I have an iPhone which works flawlessly connecting to the same AP the iPad was connected to.

    Not true...
  • If you just want a replacement I'd take the advice that Ritesh has given. If you walk into an Apple store with a Genius bar they will replace it on the spot if its faulty, no questions asked (unless signs of user inflicted damage). It's not ideal as Very should offer a replacement at the very least (pardon the pun) but it will sort your wi-fi problem and you can steer clear of Very in future.

If you are set on getting your money back though I wish the best as Very/Littlewoods are very stubborn which i'm currently just finding out about myself. :(

To prove this isn't a compatibility issue between your router and the ipad, try to connect it to another router (neighbour, friend, or do you have a spare?)

If you go to an Apple store and it connects fine, how will they fix it?
