Sainsbury's Brand Match and Tesco

  • Pleased that Sainsburys are struggling - long may it continue. Who ever in the outsourced marketing department came up with the price match scheme needs kicking into touch.

Do your Sainsburys shop - pay at till - oops, we have charged you more than you would have paid if you had gone to our competitor - here is a voucher for the difference which you can use when you call in again - providing

    a) you don't lose it
    b) you return and spend some more money with us within a certain time frame
    c) come back and be ripped off again.

Much more sensible would have been for sainsburys to say at point of payment "we have charged you more than you would have paid at XXXXX so we have discounted your bill by £xx - have a nice day !!"

That is not hard to work out ASDA do far less brands than Tesco and they tend to be the cheaper products not the more price volatile ones.

I too have had to challenge a voucher on occasions so yes they can be wrong but to the vast majority this does not matter as they would not notice.

I wasn't thinking that but yes that is another reason.

My theory was (it may be a bit far fetched but plausible I think) one of the many different reasons for the change may be to do with Tesco advertising when there offers start and end , ASDA does not there very spontaneous in that regard and can change there offers mid day so unless you check asda website just before you go shopping at Sainsbury's which most people wont you could easily miss out on receiving a brand match voucher because you thought on offer you saw there previously was still on.

Yes for the vast majority this may not matter so my post was to make those it may matter to more aware, and as a frugal shopper I DO notice when I'm more than a fiver out of pocket.(or less)

But thank you Marvin for acknowledging my post

Some of you may have read I have only ever got a 10p brand match voucher off of their Brand Match scheme.

    Well today I got a £2.60 credit voucher on a £17 shop.

I nearly keeled over with the shock.

Not with the excitement that Brand Match worked, but the fact that I got credit.. :j

Still trying to figure out the item(s) I got the credit voucher on. The brand Match site is not working for me at the mo.

Now I only have to figure out the luxury I will get.
    (hint !:EasterBun)

Checked how Sainsbury calculated the Brand Match on the last shop and found that Sainsbury Turkey Steak and Sainsbury Water Cress are Home, Entertainment or Clothing Items and non-comparable.

Sainsbury own brand food products aren't comparable with ASDA under Brand Match but it doesn't give confidence in Brand Match when they don't know that their own brand items are food.

    Yep that's Sainsbury's for you,
but if you believe you are owed any money via brand match and you have checked it yourself on Asda's website and know for sure they have pulled a fast one, just call up customer services and explain it to them. They will more than likely send you out a gift card or add it to your nectar card (mind you if its only a few pence then its not worth it)
    but that's up to you.
