The few BM coupons I got all because it was Asda was cheaper.

Then I realised that's because I buy very little from Sainsbury's these days and what I do buy is mostly on offer or a brand/staple that's not discounted anywhere. I've found that over the last year or so I've been able to get what I want from Aldi.
I think the big SMs are fighting a losing battle with money savvy shoppers.
Exactly what I do. But I can honestly say I have been doing this for many years!!
Yep the big SMs are losing out on the battle for the shoppers.
Blame the Bank crisis for that.
People from all walks of life and class started to realize the money they owed. There is no such thing as a free lunch and they started to look around for ways to lower their spending. The more I live, the more I learn.

The reason Tesco is being removed from brand match is because Sainsbury's are lowing prices on 1000s of products so the regular price is lower than the Tesco regular price. http://www.sainsburys-live-well-for-less.co.uk/pricing
An example is of Fairy Dishwasher Tablets, Original x34. Sainsbury's currently have this on offer at £6, the same at the previous Tesco deal price but when the deal is finished the Sainsbury's regular price will be £8, whereas the Tesco regular price will be £12. As stated on the TV advert.0 -

....
I made the same connection between the two announcements.
Of course, if it were true that the result of this change in pricing policy would be that Sainsbury's was actually consistently cheaper that Tesco, you'd think that they would have continued to brand match against Tesco in order to demonstrate that to their customers.
Some cynical fellow might suggest that the opposite might be more likely, and that's the real reason.
And some even more cynical fellow might suggest that the change in pricing policy was inspired by the fact that Sainsbury's is currently losing sales faster than either Morrisons or the Co-Op. And things must be bad when you're performing worse than the Co-Op.
Although not as bad as Tesco. At the rate they're going there'll be hardly any business left by the end of the decade.0 -

I've no idea if this is true but I shop at Sainsburys when MySupermarket tells me particular products are on offer there, and because their service is far better. If I had a penny for every self-service assistant at Tesco who treated me with respect (ie not kissing their teeth at me or walking away from me shouting their reply whilst not even bothering to turn their head to face me when talking....) I'd have my shopping paid for. Tesco I think do have quite regular and vast offers and if what you've suggested is true I'd imagine this would have resulted in customers complaining to Tesco- realising that the brand-match stood for nothing would have been a bit of an embarrassment for Sainsburys and whilst I could see Tesco shrugging their shoulders at that, Sainsburys would probably not try to shove it under the carpet. Perhaps a valuable difference.
I agree though, Sainsburys need to up their game or change their tactics, the competition is fierce and cheaper (if your not deal spotting) they have much better customer service but not in every store. I far prefer shopping in my nearest branch when comparing to Tesco and even Lidl (not a service issue but a stock level, queue level and shopping experience issue) but not every branch is the same.0 -
I have a theory, that Tesco may slash lots of their prices, and Sainsburys will have to either, pay the difference a LOT of times, or it is related to the court case between them bothLive for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0

But Salisburys is becoming more expensive on everything unless you want to buy calorific full ambient Shiite like crisps etc.
To be also honest Dishwasher tablets are not what I call a BASIC for life existence, are they. The more I live, the more I learn.

and that is why people shop around for deals on them. e.g. if I need tinned tomatoes for a recipe I am just going to buy them, I might compare basics to regular pricing but I won't wait for a better offer.
If I am low on dishwasher tablets and they aren't on offer, then I can usually wait 2 weeks for them to be on offer again as one of the brands almost always is on offer.0 -
Hi
Im new here but have visited this site often for advice,
Anywho this is a word of caution on Sainsbury's so called brand match.
On quite a few occasions now the brand match voucher I have received is incorrect I either get less the amount or have been told my shop is the same at asda(or Tesco's b4 they changed it). WRONG I knew for a fact that was not the case because I checked my shopping list before I set out and knew exactly how much I should receive via brand match voucher. So when I got home (you have to wait 24hrs after purchase for them to be able to check your receipt) I wrung the Sainsbury's customer care line to query it ,
'Oh sorry ' they said 'you must be mistaken our computers check against asdas website everyday to make sure you get the correct voucher'
'NO your the ones who are mistaken I have the asda website right in front of me and the comparable item is blatantly cheaper here'!
So they checked asda site and realised YES THERE WAS A MISTAKE and in fact I should of been issued with a fiver brand match voucher,, subsequently they apologised said there must have been a technical glitch and ended up sending me a gift voucher for the amount out in the post.
A one off mistake you may say, NO this has happened on 4 other separate occasions with different items and all ended up in them apologising and sending me out a gift card for the amount I should of received In brand match vouchers and the same old lame excuse about technical difficulties in the system.
They must think most shoppers wont question the voucher they receive and will get away with not honouring there policy, but I always do my homework before I shop and know when I'm saving or not.
So watch out Sainsbury's brand match can not always be trusted if I never checked the websites afterwards to see for sure (not the one where you put in your receipt details on Sainsbury's website, you need to check asdas website ) I could of lost out in over 20 pounds worth of brand match coupons and that's not counting the other times when I hadn't bothered to check and report it.
You may think if I know its cheaper at asda why not shop there? well its too far from where I live and I also don't have a loyalty card with them, I do with Sainsbury's and I shop there very regularly so I know I will always end up spending the brand match voucher value one way or another.
I also have a theory on why they have changed the brand match to just Asda and its not one anyone has mentioned yet or Sainsbury's would admit too.
(sorry if I have not put this in the right thread as I said b4 im new here).
I hope this post helps others thanks for taking the time to read me.I may not be the brightest star in the sky but I still shine. Please be gentle0 -

That is not hard to work out ASDA do far less brands than Tesco and they tend to be the cheaper products not the more price volatile ones.
I too have had to challenge a voucher on occasions so yes they can be wrong but to the vast majority this does not matter as they would not notice.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0
