I used to feel valued by Ebay, and it was good sellers who often reported bad ones. Ebay even used to send me christmas presents.:rotfl:

We could warn other buyers too - when we had dealings with scammers. You can't do thats nowadays - as its all anonymous.

But Ebays obsession with making problems where one did not exist, while pandering to scam buyers and ignoring scam sellers with fake items - its all just wrong. Reputation and prolonged periods as a top seller count for nothing. A few rogue buyers or rivals posing as buyers can have you thrown off in no time.

As TKPeters said - i have to advertise 2nd class - but still send 1st. It means i probably get less sales - but less grey hairs too.

I am now looking forward to an Ebay free life as i move forward.

I always hoped Google would set something up, so rumours of them investing in Ebay (denied) were a blow. When people searched for Ebay - they could just direct them to Google Bid - its a no brainer :rotfl::rotfl:

I agree with a lot above. Over tinkering with things that aren't faulty and didn't need fixing whilst categories continue to be swamped with Far East sellers putting loads of non category items for auction, is just wrong.

I'll disagree with any idea that Branson or Google would do anything either different or better. Private and small business sellers (of which I'm one) are too much hassle for any auction site to manage. There will always be conmen scamming the general public that need controlling. Despite his cuddly exterior Branson never does anything for the good of anything other than his profits. As for Google investing in an auction site is a backward step. Google Shopping yes, Google Bid, no chance.

Always liked Branson, but boycotted all Virgin products for over 6 years now. They were a nightmare to deal with (Virgin Media). Don't know if they are any better now.

But yeah you don't get where he is without being ruthless.

Problem is if a real competitor does come along - it will split the customer base - and hence less buyers in one place.

But i can still dream about the end of Ebay. Maybe a takeover, maybe they will see the error of their ways.

I always hated paypal, but liked ebay. When they joined, we thought Ebay would make paypal nicer. But the opposite happened and Ebay became nasty like paypal. Maybe if they do go their seperate ways - Ebay will have to improve.

But one thing i do know - i'm too old for this s*** :rotfl:
  • Ebay's delivery estimates are going to be the downfall for most of us.

Received 2 new defects for INR cases in Germany when they hadn't arrived within 6 working days (they turned up the next day) and just had a message from a buyer saying I needed this today, so if not received by 12.00 I want a refund. No please or thank you.

Posted second class on Tuesday and Ebay say should have arrived Thursday or Friday. Yes, it should, but we all know Royal Mail isn't always true to it's word.

That's another two buyers on my blocked list.
You're only young once, but you can be immature forever :D

Gosh, a post from Soolin having a pop at Ebay. Times must be bad ;-) I have been dragged over hot coals in the past here, laughed at and mocked because I dared suggest that Ebay was dying. Looks like a few folk here and on the Ebay forums feel the same as I have been. Yep, Ebay (as I have said for some time under duress here) are a pain in the backside.
They demand so much control now from the buyer it has taken away any pleasure of selling (that is if you sell anything anymore as I can't) Now they are demanding a certain quality of photo which will mean re-shooting all my catalog just for the sake of a few extra pixels. Now they add 35p after 20 free listings a month which has killed it for me.

Please read my post carefully. I am not suggesting at all that eBay is dying, I just think the infrastructure and management needs a serious rethink before we all get bored of having to cope with the endless glitches and just stop.

I have issues with your quarterly threads saying how eBay has suddenly died for you, only because you have been saying that for years now and yet insist in keep selling the same things. My sales have never been so strong, I am up on some weeks nearly 100%on sales for the same time last year. I'm just getting tired of dealing with eBay postage that won't print, photos disappearing or my postage costs just disappearing. If they just stopped changing everything for a while and sort out what they are trying to achieve it would be a bit of a comfort.

Maybe if EBay removed their expected date of delivery it would be a help to everyone. When buyers make a purchase, if they check Royal Mail, they will be able to see how long purchases take generally so will keep this in their head for other purchases. If they pay for 1st class delivery, they will expect it the day following payment, depending on what time of day they paid of course and what part of the UK they live in. I remember years ago Royal Mail used to have a map or a list and if a person posted from the north of Scotland to the south of England or vice versa, 1st class might actually take 2 days. I'm sure they will still have all those details on their website. If they pay for 2nd class delivery, they should expect their item to take 2-3 days.

It might work better if EBay had something set up to add these approximations for delivery, when sellers mark their item as despatched, if they need to add these dates at all. Years ago they were not needed and people just used common sense in understanding roughly how long their parcel would take via Royal Mail. In my opinion these dates are not required.

Like most other people, I do wish EBay would just stop changing all the rules as it does make selling much more stressful.

  • You mean you didn't personally fly out to the buyer and hand it to him on his doorstep?

    ZZZZZZZZZZZ
    would not deal with again!

Ive actually done that (well not fly I drove) and they complained because they paid for postage.

I was heading out 20 mins after the auction ended and was by fluke going past the area of the person that bought it, So i thought id be a good seller and drop it in, they got it about 50 mins after purchase and complained because i "overcharged postage" this was the days before the 'defects' though

As Soolin points out you manage to miss the point. I think you started saying Ebay was dying in your first post in 2010, since when Ebay has increased turnover and users.
As for having better pictures, I can't see why that is a problem, if anything the fact that you have poor quality pictures is a factor in your continually complaining your products don't sell. Perhaps consider the possibility that your competitors have good pictures and descriptions and thus sell more.
Ebay have their problems, they may be contracting, time will tell, but they aren't dying. To take credit for saying something 4 years ago when you couldn't sell a badge is a little rich.
