this is what makes my blood boil

Item bought last night at around 10.30pm. I offer 1 day dispatch and buyer paid extra for 1st class delivery- I have just gone to print out ebay postage and get this message:

This service may not meet the buyer's expectation of delivery date. Please consider using a faster service.

I am so blinking fed up of this that I often have to walk away from my PC and take a few deep breaths. No wonder buyers expect things to arrive in such unrealistic time frames.

  • Bad day at the office ? , Ive been selling on Ebay ( small time ) for 13 years now and the last year or two have been the worst being caught between what Ebay wants from you and what customers want from you

    - still have a year maybe of stock up in the loft ( less if I pull my finger out ), but I think I will be glad when its all gone to be honest ( and they can all get stuffed - Freedom ! )
As Martin says - please be nice - there is no such thing as a stupid question ! ;)
  • You mean you didn't personally fly out to the buyer and hand it to him on his doorstep?

    ZZZZZZZZZZZ
    would not deal with again!

You mean you dont have a man on a scooter waiting? (or woman for the pc brigade). Disgraceful :)

When Soolins angry with Ebay - you just know the end is nigh. Its not long ago i thought you worked for them. How times change, as Ebay continue its campaign to make sellers lives a misery.

I wonder if they have a department set up to screw sellers - and the best idea each month see's the staff member get a bonus :rotfl:

Yes I am getting cross and as I explained on another thread it is because it is no longer logical. Perhaps I am a bit obsessive, but if I get told there is a rule, and I can see that rule , I can accept I signed up to keep it. Now nobody, not least of whom eBay, know what rules there are. I am still making good money, and ,y sales are up from last year, but my worry and stress level has never been so high.

Take my highly positive, embarrassingly glowing positive feedback left with 1* across the board - mistake right? No, not according to eBay, I swear i could almost feel the woman in CS blushing with embarrassment when she explained to me that it was perfectly reasonable that my buyer had a high overall positive experience with a perfect item arriving quickly, but still feel that each individual part of that transaction was 1*. Are they 'on' something perhaps? If I check what rules I can find about defects, it suggests I look on them as a learning tool- so I can see where my business needs improvement. I asked the CS woman how I can learn from this , apart to learn that eBay have actually lost their reason.

I still think eBay, as a concept is usable, but I think they need to be clear that the moment any reasonable competitor starts up, that sellers will start pulling their stock to go elsewhere. They also need to stop all these changes, sit down in a quiet room with a cup of tea and actually work out what is wrong, and sort it once and for all.

Wile I am ranting, and I assume no one has read this far :rotfl: I am also cross that other players like Ebid do not see the opportunity that is being dished up to them.

  • I totally agree with everything you have said Soolin. If I was someone senior at Ebid, I would be pulling out all the stops to take advantage of this mess.

Ebay seem to think they can do what they like as there is no competition, but I can't believe that there isn't someone out there setting up a replacement site.

I know if I had that sort of money to throw around, that's exactly what I would be doing.

Totally agree, too much stress every time I send off a parcel wondering if it will be OK as far as the buyer is concerned.

Thank goodness I have sold 95% of my late husbands collections and I don't have a business. I think I've about 200 items left now and I'm hoping to take them to a related open day next weekend but the big stuff is gone so I have achieved my aim of space and had an income when being a SAHM for 5 years.

I used to list the 100 and sell about 65 a month. I've returned to work and knew I'd cut down but in September so far I've sold 3 items of the 18 I listed. The charity shops have done very well this month from other stuff - books, clothes and household, etc. I didn't even think off Ebay. This time last year I would have given some of them a try first.

Soolin, this is why all the sellers are stating 2nd class & using 1st class, so to meet eBay's buyer expectations.
eBay class 1st class as Next Day Delivery & you may need to add a cut-off time to your account; http://shiptrack.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?HandlingTimePreference
We've set our one as 10am

I don't have a cut off time as I don't have same day dispatch .

I don't have any worries about defects for dispatch (well not yet anyway) and have lots of feedback thanking me for fast delivery, it is just ebays stupid misunderstanding of Royal Mail that gets me down.

How can my properly advertised postal service be tardy? Send working day after purchase using 1 st class and eBay consider it too slow? I am doing exactly what I say I will.

  • I feel your pain in regards to the ridiculous new and improved eb*y. We have even tweeted Richard Branson and asked him to set something up Vbay would be a good name. I have been a seller (business) for a couple of years and things have never been so bad.

It's not my products, they are selling well on Amazon, Etsy and my own website. I requested a callback today as eb*y had slapped an enormous bright red FREE RETURNS on my listings under the buy it now box. I do not offer returns as my items are personalised. My callback time was 37 minutes, it is usually in between 2 and 3 minutes. The call handler sounded very weary and this was only 9.30am this morning. I wonder why!!! Anyway he removed the red FREE RETURNS with the flick of a switch and said he didn't know why it was there. I do now think that whoever is in charge has lost the plot and has been asking for business advice from the Tesco financial department!

I am running my listings down on ebay too much stress, defects for anything and everything beyond my control, such as 1 star ratings from a customer, when I 'reached out' to my customer to ask why the 1 star yet glowing feedback she said her children were playing with the ipad!
