Rough Times Ahead........

£200 Million in cuts from now to April next year alone.... then what ???

Cuts... Cuts... Cuts.... and more cuts..... if the Belfast Telegraph is to believed (OK they like to "exaggerate" a bit I know but they may not be too far wrong)
Talk of mass redundancies.....
Not much hope of any pay rises....

As one "source" put it...
"This is like a can the Executive has been kicking down the alley for some time. They have now reached a wall and it is bouncing back on them. There is nowhere left to go, the easy options are all gone,"

They've been making huge cuts in the rest of GB for years now but our lot have been sticking their heads in the sand... now it's all coming back to bite them in the a$$...

Just as things were starting to level off and the corner was turned in the economy now this "elephant in the room" has raised it's head again..
There's a LOT of public sector workers in Northern Ireland (about 220,000 by all accounts incl. teachers, police etc. etc..)

Are we looking at increased Rates, Public sector redundancies, Water rates, no more free prescriptions, No more free bus passes for the elderly ????

Should they and indeed we be worried...... ??????

BIG decisions to make ahead.... are they up to it ???

(Personally I think not.... I await the re-introduction of Direct Rule....... I really don't think our lot will EVER agree....)

Rumour has it an email will be issued around the NICS before the end of the year about voluntary redundancies within the AA and AO grades. Planned G7 and EO2 boards have been scrapped. The EO1 is going ahead but the people that pass won't get placed I reckon.

So get rid of the low paid who actually do a bit of work...... What about the Tiers and tiers of management..... would make more financial sense to get rid of a few of them !!

The executive should stop paying the £300 million a year it currently spends on Public Finance Initiatives such as the South West Acute hospital. It's madness that this ridiculous collection of people we call government agreed to £300 million of debt to the private sector each and every year when it can borrow at historically low rates.

Instead of looking at cutting benefit for the least well off, it should look at cutting the money it give to the better off?
  • Starting with the fact there are 108 MLA's in this region....... less than half that would easily suffice.....

Get rid of all the "Them & Us" public services like swimming pools etc where again one modern efficient pone would suffice...

Oh I agree. Never going to happen though.

Just think, if you got rid of 50 MLAs, you'd have to get rid of their wives working as office managers, their sons and daughters working as aids, friends working in the office. They have too much to lose. 50 MLAs losing 100k+ for each family.

    Turkey's don't vote for Christmas.

The parties (particularly the DUP) have made it an art keeping it in the family, they’ll never willingly give it up.
  • All I'll say is don't go bidding on a new house just yet.... the recent levelling of the market could very much destabilise again.....

Too many public sector workers in uncertain times !

Really, we haven't seen a single cut in public spending over the past 4 year. Public sector numbers have actually increased by a few thosand.

Exactly, sticking their heads in the sand and ignoring the issues.... They're just too used to having money thrown at them like in the "bad old days"... Well times have changed....

I read that GB are expected to have 3 ~ 4 more years of cuts/budget restraints.... this after already having endured cuts for the last 3 or 4 years..... doesn't bode well for us over here in NI who have had very few "real" cuts to date..... There could be trouble ahead !!!!
  • University Funding Slashed

Ombudsman's Budget slashed so investigations shelved

HET being wound up with the loss of 100's of jobs..

And so the problems keep arising..... Maybe it's time to take some tough and somewhat unpopular decisions Stormont !! It's what you're paid to do !!
