well I`m worn out and spent up

we had some relatives down for lunch and of course I did it all as usual and then I fed and looked after baby. I`m well and truly jaded and I honestly don`t get the enjoyment any more.

All in all it is costing far to much, making sure that everyone is catered for with food, drink and snacks and it`s draining me.

I know I could ask people to help but I don`t. I just get on with it and it is like a magic wand has been waved again and it hasn`t really started yet

I am going to plan next christmas and new year away and I am doing the planning in january while all this is still fresh in my mind

    I have had enough!!!

Time to call a halt, then. Don't 'just get on with it'! And as you rightly say, it hasn't even started yet.

There was another thread on Martin's site, about a couple who wanted to do different things on Christmas Day. He wanted to spend time with his mother who has MS and is in a wheelchair. She wanted to do what she's always done - go to grandparents, where all the family gathers, kids can run around and play and they all have a great time. There wouldn't be room for MIL in wheelchair, plus the difficulty of getting her there.

However, all the cooking is done by Grandma, who must be in her mid-70s or older, and she 'just gets on with it' uncomplainingly because that's what the family has always done!

I would say 'stop it dead, stop it now'. What were you planning to do when Christmas actually arrives, which won't be until Tuesday? It is costing you too much in time, money and effort - you don't have to go as far as planning next year and going away. Do it now!

Kittie - you get whatever the opposite of 'thanks' is for mentioning the dreaded
word before I've even been on my summer holiday.

Never mind Kitty, I have just finished 'chatting' on another thread about Xmas in Spain. I personally went to Austria with family. It was very very VERY cold as the sun never made it over the mountain at that time of the year. The trouble with Austria is they celebrate with a great meal on Xmas Eve and that is your LOT. Christmas day is a non starter, no celebrations and no special meal - over and out. I suppose it rest on whether you love all the Xmas 'stuff', and special meal or are escaping it. This year it's going to be Spain. One of the 'gals' mentioned an Hotel in Javea in Spain for 17.40 Euros a night for the over 60's in winter. I want some of that.

Dear All, before someone jumps down my throat about Xmas in Austria, I hesitate to add we were in aan Austrian guest house. I guess if you were in a more English orientated Hotel, they would put on a better Xmas and even a Xmas dinner. S'up to you.

Like chesky369, we haven't had our 'summer' holiday yet. That will happen the first 2 weeks in September. Before that, there are other things happening - just got back from Brackenhurst Presentation Day yesterday, then my brother's wedding in July/niece's 18th.

Why waste so much summer-time worrying about one day in mid-winter?

Re Christmas, this year I intend to do even less than I did last year, and that wasn't an awful lot. Does that answer the question?
