hi everybody,
I applied for MBNA credit card, after the application I received a message that I need to call a 0800 number to discuss my application, if they don't receive my call within 10 days, they will make a decision based on the information I've submitted in the application.
I What does this mean ? Is it a referral ? As I'm aware a referral means that an underwriter will have a look at my application, but why are they asking me to call ?
thank you

One way to find out?
MBNA always just send me for a referral and then decline so havent had this. The most obvious thing would be that they found a discrepency in what you've told them and what they've found in National Hunter or there is something that could be negative unless there are extenuating circumstances.0 -
if you don't it will be declinedDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

I had that years ago. I called and they asked why I wanted another card so I told them it was to transfer a balance and they immediately said ok that's fine and approved there and then with an £8500 limit0

Actually, I dont believe it is owned by them but simply operated by them as they also operate a number of insurance databases on behalf of other institutions
Operated by Experian Analytics, and owned by a subsidiary of Experian.
So???? Just so that people are aware of the extent of the Experian operation. Nothing wrong with that, is there?0 -
hi everybody,
just a quick update, I phoned them as requested, the operator said he will have a look and get back to me, he kept me for a minute then asked me about the other credit cards I have, then left me for another minute to come back and tell me that I'm approved for £4.5 limit, 8.9% APR as quoted in the pre eligibility check.0 -

Nothing wrong with it, just seems a very odd factoid to randomly throw out there that adds nothing to the debate in hand.
Its a company limited by guarantee and so doesnt have shareholders. Its members, the banks, experian etc are its members and so are the closest to owners that it has. See http://www.theguardian.com/money/2008/nov/15/national-hunter-credit-agency that confirms the banks are its owners0 -

Just to pick up on this National Hunter thing; I wonder, do the CC companies and banks consider it to be a credit reference agency? I don't recall ever giving permission on a CC application (of which I've done many) for my personal data to be transferred to National Hunter. Maybe it's there but I've never seen it.0
