dead car gone from drive

several years ago my brother wrote off his car - only 3rd party insured so he kept it on the drive ( we are tenants in coman - ie co-own a house) i have been on at him for years to scrap the car. he has been talking recently about getting a new car as my parents with the money my parents have promised him for his 40th birthday - he has had his birthday but Mum and Dad wont give him the cheque untill the old car is gone. for the lat few days he has been looking for cars locally. imagine my joy today when i got home from work and found his scrap heap gone from the drive! my partner got home from work and parked in the empty space. my brother got home later and my partner said to him ' i'm just borrowing your parking space - i know you have a use planned for it'
Que brother looking out the window and saying i did not notice it had gone - we thought he had scrapped the car and was pretending he had not!!
NO!!- CAR HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM OUR DRIVE WITHOUT OUR KNOWLEDGE!!
i suggested calling police, but my brother will have none of it - he feels they (whoever they are) have done him a favour - i cant help but wonder what if the car is abandoned on the highway or taken to a local park and set fire to - even if it is scrapped should you not have a certificate of destruction!! dont you need documents to scrap a car!! nobody seemed to see anything - removing a a immobile car from a driveway takes some doing!!
Surely we should report it - if we don't, why would they not come back for my car next week!! it is not too difficult to work out i dont use my car most days as it is cheaper to use the bus rather than park in town for work.
lots of times the same people have turned up on the doorstep asking if they could buy the car for scrap - they have even waited up the road for my brother to leave - i have always explained it is not mine to sell - seems they stopped taking no for a answer!!
what to do?? i am a bit freaked!! my brother and partner dont see why!!

Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"

I think I would tell the police incase problems occur, assuming it was sorned of courseI'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

not sorned but off road for 5 years - bro not wanting to report as may get stung for for back tax!! but i feel violated the thing has been removed from my property without consent!
and this is the point you are making - of course.. but whether or not sorned - no one has the right to remove it from my property without a warrant.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. It's still theft. Report it to the police. They'll let the reputable scrappies know about it and they won't be able to weigh it in.
Forget about the SORN issue it's minor they won't ask for back tax unless they find the car on the road which they have not.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

What sort of car was it?0

More importantly how scrap was it? If it's possible someone can bodge it back together and use it then you need to report it to the police. If it was a block of rusted metal it's likely just been sold to a scrapyard for £100. I'd report it to the police anyway.0

There are too many but-ifs not to report it stolen, someone, somewhere is going to be holding the sticky end of the stick if you don't get the Police involved. Apart from that, do you think it is OK to open a help yourself charter for thieves?0

If it wasn't SORNed, I'm surprised he hadn't already had a fine from DVLA over the last few years. Have you looked up the vehicle record? https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/
It may be that DVLA, in one of their periodic purges, have decided it's dead anyway.
Your call whether you report it stolen or not. Personally, I would, because these thieving scrotes don't always take valueless scrap, and anything that'll help stop them has to be a good thing.

(By "your", I mean "Your brother's" since it's his car. You can nag at him, but he would need to do it for himself.)0 -
I reckon the rather odd posts from vuongthithuy are pointless post-builders prior to him offering us a fantastic deal on Vietnam tours with his company.
do you think ?

I agree with the report it consensus. After all, what if it's involved in a hit-and-run? It's your door that will be getting knocked on by the boys in blue.0

He's had 5 years to SORN it. If it's now put back on the road and gets tickets/used to rob a bank then it's your brother who will cop the flack, not you.
Equally, it's his job to report it stolen, so why are you concerned? No free lunch, and no free laptop0
