or Solydx or Xubuntu or Zorin Light or Peppermint 5 operating systems. As well as all of them running better than Windows 7 on a netbook they are also much more secure and not affected by trojans/viruses/browser attacks etc.
I have just had a look on ebay and if you did want say a good Samsung netbook N145 with 2gb RAM and Windows 7 starter there are some available for £70.
Nothing wrong with Linux if that is what you want. Just not sure that it would be the OS of choice for a young 'un.
Samsung Netbooks do benefit from a clean install of Windows 7 Starter without the bundled software.0 -

Although as Nifty indicated the ones on ebay generally do not have any warranty as they are used machines from private sellers
