Samsung N145 netbook has a good reputation. You can buy good used ones off ebay for about £80 or less. Then all you need to do is put either Linux Mint 17 xfce or the 32 bit version of LXLE operating systems on it and you will have a very good machine for the purpose required.
  • I have been looking around for laptops.
Saverpoint is always worth a look:

You would have to compare to other sites for the price, but there are a few which include a keyboard.

For getting good netbooks ebay is really the only source as they are no longer sold new. Operating system wise anything heavier like Windows 7 or Linux Mint Cinnamon will run very slowly. Light linux distros run very well on netbooks.
My own netbook is a Acer D260 and runs smoothly with Linux Mint xfce and is in my opinion a much better option than a tablet. As well as surfing the net, using skype, playing videos smoothly (up to 720p) the real keyboard is more practical for using office software such as Libre Office.

    This of course, is nonsense.

I have an ACER Aspire One ZG5 from 2008, running Windows 7 Starter on 1.5GB of RAM.
Certainly doesn't run slowly. It's a Netbook. It has it's limitations, Windows 7 Starter isn't one of them.

£11 to £14 for a 2GB RAM module and a clean install of Windows 7 Starter will bring it up to speed...unless you actually want Linux Mint XFCE...

This is of course, not the place for your arrogant disdain for other people's advice/opinions.

Do you have some on-topic advice for the OP or are you Trolling?
My post is on-topic....whereas yours is just your useless and off topic opinion.

or Solydx or Xubuntu or Zorin Light or Peppermint 5 operating systems. As well as all of them running better than Windows 7 on a netbook they are also much more secure and not affected by trojans/viruses/browser attacks etc.

I have just had a look on ebay and if you did want say a good Samsung netbook N145 with 2gb RAM and Windows 7 starter there are some available for £70.
