Dial up internet

I have just found out that I have been paying a monthly fee for dial up internet services via Orange Home for the past 10 years. I can vaguely remember getting dial up for my husband as my job at the time had restrictions on visiting betting sites. We were under the impression that any costs would be attached to our BT bill at the time. I have now cancelled it but was wondering if there was any recourse for us or do we just have to bite the bullet and accept we have been paying between £15 and the recent increase of £25 pounds for the past 10 years. Orange Home have said that they will refund us for a couple of months or so, is this just a ruse so we won't take it further? We have never received any correspondence from Orange Home. Grateful for any advice. Many thanks Patwall.

If you didn't cancel then Orange Home can't assume you don't need the connection.
I can't believe you haven't looked at a bank statement in £10 years and noticed this charge going out.
My advice, take the refund offered and make sure you get it cancelled.0 -
Thank for the reply. Isn't quite true that I haven't looked at statements for 10 years, it is just that I did not notice this particular amount. It came out as debit card rather than Direct Debit and because there are so many parent companies, it is not often clear what amounts refer to as reference numbers aren't always clear. Anyway, yes I should have looked closer but assumed it was one of our mobile phones. No excuse and I told my husband this but just wanted to see if anyone had a similar experience. I have given myself a slap on the wrist and will be looking closer in future. Thank you.0

That aside, if you didn't cancel you are still liable for payment.0

Why do you think that you are going to get a refund on a service that you haven't cancelled, and which has still been available to you should you wish to use it?
Even the couple of months refund is a goodwill offer, and Orange were under no obligation to make it.
You were paying £25 per month for dial up?!!No free lunch, and no free laptop
