    The snowflake is for driving in ice/snow if you get into heavy snow it prevents the gearbox from spinning the wheels and simply changing up gears even though you might be stationary.

    Well thank you for that information. I did wonder. I am slowly getting there, with all this information, just hope that i will remember it when i need to.

    One thing to note is that a 5 speed automatic gearbox will normally have 4 forward gears, and reverse (5 gears total). 6 speed autos have 5 forward gears and reverse.

    What? Really? I've never heard of such a thing before, do you have an example?

  • Yes, my own car. 722.6 gearbox, 1 reverse gear and 5 forward gears.

    And it's marketed as having a 6 speed box? I'm not doubting you, I'm genuinely boggled at this gap in my knowledge.
